Not sure what your point is here. The only sexual contact I had in the 3 weeks before the outbreak (which is lasting longer and is way more painful than I expected) were BBBJ's from sex workers and there is no doubt in my mind that I picked this up from one of them. You're free to disagree and think I may have had this for years and that nobody can tell where and when they got it, but that's usually not the case. The doctors at the HFC told me this is definitely an initial outbreak and came from someone I had contact with in the weeks prior to the outbreak. I'm just glad I didn't engage in any kissing with the one I think I likely got it from or I could have it in both places.
Assman:

Thank you for this part of your reply:

This helps establish why you (and your doctor) feel the transmission mostly likely was recent activity as you have described.

In your posts you have given a 'fairly certain it was recent activity' statements in your previous posts but did not understand how you could be fairly certain, until this statement. Appreciate.

Like others, good luck with your future.

Like others on this thread I didn't really know how certain I could be about when I got it so I was hesitant to make definite statements, but the lesions were getting worse so I went back to the HFC yesterday and was told this. Glad that helps clarify and thanks for your good wishes.

Your post is flawed because, yes it is true that the virus can lay dormant for many years but this is only true generally after the "initial" very visible and painful outbreak that the OP is experiencing now. Therefor, this visible symptomatic viral infection that the OP now has is a result of sexual contact that he had a few days before the symptoms occurred. With whom the OP had sex with very very recently is known only to him and he thinks that it was with a sex worker.

Here's something I didn't know. That's between 1/4 to 1/3 of the population in the US has HSV-2.

HSV-2 infections are less common than HSV-1. However, about 25% – 30% of adults in the United States have an HSV-2 infection. HSV-2 infections are what people are usually thinking about when they talk about genital herpes. It is usually passed between people by sexual contact. However, most people with HSV-2 don’t know they have it either. Some people, however, get genital herpes outbreaks, often several times each year.

Thanks, most accurate posting on this topic. Alot of people are unaware that they are carriers, both of these viruses lay dormant in the nerve cells, it is usually kept in check by ones immune system. When a person is stressed or their immune system is weakened the virus takes over and an outbreak occurs.. it is possible to be infected and not have a major outbreak of blisters, it could be small and be mistaken for an ingrown hair or some other skin infection.

His experience has given me pause. Have not partaken in any activity recently. Won’t last but going to be a lot more careful.

Oblivion
again, he DID NOT have sex with anyone. he received a blowjob.
He did not have sexual intercourse but what is the difference in terms of viral transmission of the herpes between sticking your dick in a herpetic mouth herpetic, vaginal or anus. The virus doesn't moralize or discriminate in terms of orafices as people have a propensity to do

Definitely you. Too late for those of us who have it, but you may soon join us if you refuse to educate yourself on the risks or take them seriously. Even with your crappy attitude, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Very painful and I have had many sports injuries (broken bones, torn ligaments) and nothing compares to this. I hear the first outbreak is even worse for women, so definitely worth taking precautions to avoid.

Is this your first outbreak? Or 2nd? And without having to skim all the back through the thread did you confirm whether not this is hsv-1 you have? Or hsv-2?

i know a female friend who had it on her gonads - she told me it was insanely paintful and EVERYWHERE, and i dont doubt it.

having known people shingles (similar virus, symptoms, medication etc) it is extremely painful (the virus attacks the nerves directly so you can imagine the sensations).

good thing AssMan, is that the the worst should be over soon, eventually the lesions stop ozzing, crust over and flake away. the process overall is still about a month or two as the skin recovers.

the thing to watch out next will be any short/long term nerve damage (i think its called post heretic neuralgia or something like that), which is dependent upon on how soon the virus was caught, and how soon the antiVirals were consumed.

some people diagnose herpes a little too late, after which the outbreak will be full blown, and chances are some nerve damage will occur.

The Gonads? That’s even worse! They say it’s usually worse for women :/. That’s really sad and sorry to hear about her situation.

This is my first outbreak and a swab test at the HFC confirmed it is HSV-1

Can you sue a prostitute if she gives you herpes since she would be knowingly risking the lives of many people? Do they have insurance?

considering that participating in the hobby is illegal in canada to begin with, lol it aint happening. not to mention civvies pass this onto eachother as well with no legal recourse.

Herpes especially HSV 2 is incredibly difficult to pass on via oral sex as these lesions are in the genitalia and need excessive friction while shedding to be passed on. Is it impossible? No? But the statistics show that its as rare or close to zero with an oral sex mode of transmission. Even condom protected sex has a higher likelihood of causing HSV2 as the base of your penis is exposed and can be rubbed against the vagina walls causing transmission if she has an outbreak. HSV 2 does just not occupy the mouth to really pass on from mouth to penis. Hsv1 yes but this is also quite rare. I worked at an STD clinic for over 10 years and no one got HSV 2 from a blowjob. It's just incredibly rare.
That is consistent with everything I have read, but the incidence of genital HSV-1 from oral sex seems to be on the rise. It seems that young people are becoming a little less likely to be exposed to HSV-1 in childhood (and therefore they don't acquire immunity) and that generation is more likely to engage in oral sex so their first exposure to HSV-1 is in the genital area resulting in more frequent cases of genital HSV-1 infections. From what I understand, once you have genital herpes, it doesn't really matter as much which strain you have as either HSV-1 or HSV-2 can be passed on to the mouths or genitals of partners.

Assman, sorry to hear and thanks for sharing. Are you sure your SO isn't also seeing other people? You mentioned she isn't interested in sex as much as you like. Maybe she is/was getting it from others and probably why you weren't getting as much at home. Something to consider before you take all the blame.

You took good precautions by seeing only girls from reputable agencies and spas. I believe they require their girls to get tested frequently.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Atleast you weren't having an affair or hooking up with civies at bars and risked getting something worst.

I feel bad for your wife if you are the one who passed on something to her but you can never be certain.
Whatever you do, don't tell your wife about the hobby. She will never understand and you will regret telling her. Time for you to seek advice from a lawyer before you discuss your sex life with your SO. Hope everything works out for you.

There is a huge difference between HSV 1 and HSV 2. You can get HSV 1 on the genetalia. This is different from HSV 2 which only occurs on the genetialia and is a gateway for other much much more serious STDs. HSV 2 is almost always passed on via unprotected sex or even when the shaft is not fully covered. HSV1 on the genetalia is a much more benign monster than HSV2. You can get infected with HSV1 via the genetalia and have an outbreak on your face. HSV2 is always a genital outbreak and painful.
Hows it a gateway?
