What does he think he is doing in LA? Clearly not promoting the film industry. He would have brought along Canadian film executives and various government officials if he was trying to drum up business.

I think he just wanted to spend some tax money on blow.

Rob and Doug are in L.A. on their own dime.

Question: How many Americans heard of Toronto when Miller was mayor and how many more Americans now hear of Toronto?

I'm not sure if he came up with this Jimmy Kimmel appearance himself or if he's hired an image fixer, but this may be smarter than people think.....wait don't laugh....

Think Hugh Grant.

He is about to go on his biggest "critic's" show. And it could actually go either way. My bet is he Doesn't come off looking good but right now he can't look worse. If he does pull this off he may take a lot of heat off himself.

I'm taping it to watch on the morning and will comment further then........

And how many of them will invest in or travel to Toronto because of Rob?

It gets even more embarrassing. He's outside the Oscars and demonstrates complete lack of knowledge of this year's movies. If's fucking crazy, he votes against TIFF in his own city to demonstrate how little he cares about the motion picture industry, and thinks he can go to the Academy Awards.

He deserves all the mocking he gets.

I hope not because the reviews are in. This one's from the Hollywood Reporter:

Jimmy Kimmel Grills Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in Scorching Interview
UPDATED: During Monday's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," the disgraced leader fielded a barrage of questions, from drugs and alcohol to why he even agreed to appear on the late-night program in the first place.

It's no secret Kimmel had been intent on booking the disgraced mayor on his show, spawned in part by footage of Ford walking head-first into a video camera. One day before the Oscars, the late-night host personally picked Ford up at LAX, something Kimmel joked he didn't even do for his mother.

Ford was dressed in an all-black tux with a bright red tie and handkerchief (like a "magician," Kimmel joked) and threw shirts into the audience as he made his entrance. Moments after he sat down, Kimmel cut right to the chase: "Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that you are here, but why are you here? What good could come of this? Have you ever seen this show?" That would set the tone for the rest of the interview, which spanned three segments.

Kimmel cold-called Ford personally, after the mayor publicly gave out his private number, to invite him on Jimmy Kimmel Live! "and imagine my shock when you answered the phone and said, 'Yeah, OK, I'll come out there.' " Ford's response? "Absolutely, I'm all about customer service." Kimmel fired back: "Yeah, but I'm not even a customer." Kimmel wasn't polite with his questioning, asking the rotund Ford at one point, "Realistically, how high can you jump?" after Ford exp**********d his desire to be a good public official. "You'd be surprised with how fast I can move," Ford replied, to audience laughs.

Kimmel wasn't shy about telling Ford how disliked he was -- even with the city's residents he serves -- rattling off viewer backlash he had received since announcing that Ford would be a guest ("abusive exploiter," "very sick, very bad man" were just some of the descriptors used by Toronto residents in notes Kimmel read), in addition to accusations that Ford was homophobic and racist. "Is there any validity to any of this?" Kimmel asked. "Is that all they have?" Ford asked. "I have a lot," Kimmel said, laughing. "You may have set a record." When Kimmel asked Ford point-black if he was homophobic, Ford expectedly denied it. "If you had more gay friends, they would not have let you wear that tie," Kimmel said, offering to send him unmarked ties. "If they end up around your neck, then so be it."

As for the many apologies Ford has had to make during his recent troubles, he said that he has moved past them. "The apologies are over. I'm moving on. People are going to judge me on a proven track record and that's why I'm down here," he assured. "I want people to come to Toronto." It was only those moments when Ford spoke highly of the Canadian city that the audience -- which included some Toronto residents -- cheered.

Kimmel contrasted Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti, whom he called "a great guy," with Ford's outlandish behavior. While he painted Garcetti as the model mayor, unattractive photos of Ford were displayed with a milk mustache, dancing with scantily-clad women in costume and devouring huge barbecue ribs. "Can you talk to him? It's enough already," Kimmel urged.

At one point, Ford was sweating so much that Kimmel broke from his line of questioning with a Kleenex. "Do you mind if I dab you, Mr. Mayor? I'll auction this off on eBay. Actually, I'm going to take this DNA and I'm going to clone you and we're going to have a whole army of you in L.A.," Kimmel said.

In the second segment, Kimmel broadcast damaging videos of Ford on a television screen, including one that had Ford doing a Jamaican accent ("I would love to take you there for spring break sometime," Kimmel retorted), miming someone drinking and driving and another where Ford tackled a woman. At times, Ford looked uncomfortable, shuffling away from the screen as Kimmel asked for explanations. But not all of the videos were controversial: One showed Ford falling down during a football game, while another had him throwing candy canes at children during Christmas "as if you were feeding birds," Kimmel said.

In what was perhaps one of the more sincere moments, Kimmel asked Ford if he had an alcohol and drug problem: "Maybe that's something you want to think about, like trying to talk to somebody."
Ford, who is running for re-election for Toronto mayor in October, told Kimmel: "I wasn't elected to be perfect, Jimmy. I was elected to clean up a mess." (Ford later invited Kimmel to appear on his own show, Ford Nation.)

"You picked a really good night to be here" was how Kimmel opened Monday's show, which kicked off a little past 6:15 p.m. PT. "I feel like I've been waiting for this night my whole life. I have a lot to discuss with Mayor Ford. I don't think I've had this many questions since the series finale of Lost." He also joked that "at some point during the show, I will yell 'Hey, Kool-Aid!' and [Ford]'ll come smashing through the wall." The evening's guests also included Muppets Most Wanted's Gonzo, and Kimmel made a point to mention just how absurd the lineup was on paper: "Rob Ford and Gonzo. Either this is really happening or someone slipped peyote into my preshow chimichanga."

When Kimmel threw to commercial break ahead of Ford's interview, the mayor was seen lifting weights. And as Kimmel's desk was being set up in between segments, he questioned a Fresno, Calif., native -- in town to celebrate his 40th birthday. After learning that the man went back to school to study kinesiology, Kimmel joked: "Mayor Ford might need to talk to you."

The late-night host is coming off another successful post-Academy Awards special Sunday. Just hours before, the ninth annual Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars drew a series high 7 million viewers. Kimmel adapted four viral YouTube hits into star-filled dramatic trailers.
And the punchline to all the mocking is: we voted him into office!

There are video clips too if you can stand watching our mayor be chumped in front of a live studio audience.

He was awesome. What mayor would give out his number?
A millionaire crack-smoking drunk driving congenital liar with terrible judgement.

A mayor whose best friend is...well....

Ford friend Sandro Lisi has long history of violent threats, documents show

Accused crack video extortionist Alexander “Sandro” Lisi
once threatened an 18-year-old woman by motioning that he would slit her throat, allegedly menaced a second woman by saying he would have acid thrown in her face, and was driving in a car crash that critically injured an elderly woman pedestrian, according to newly obtained court documents. Most recently, he was convicted in 2013 of threatening to kill a woman.
Those court documents and an ongoing Toronto Star investigation reveal that Lisi — the man Mayor Rob Ford spoke up for on City of Toronto letterhead and touted as “straight as an arrow” — has a long history of threatening violence against women and a penchant for dirty tricks. Among those tricks, he boasts that he infests his enemy’s homes with bedbugs and has people call police on his behalf to inform on rival drug dealers...

The relationship between Ford and Lisi, his occasional driver, is central to the Project Brazen 2 investigation being carried out by Toronto police. Detectives had both men under surveillance last summer as they met in parks, schoolyards and at Lisi’s home. Ford has criticized police for expending what he has described as “millions of dollars” on what he deems a waste of time. Project Brazen 2 detectives have charged Lisi with trafficking marijuana, and with extortion over an attempt to retrieve the video showing Ford smoking crack cocaine and making racially charged and homophobic remarks. None of these allegations against Lisi has been tested in court.,,

So close is the relationship between Ford, 44, and Lisi, 35, that Ford entrusted Lisi to watch over Ford’s 8-year-old daughter at a day-long Chinese gala in Richmond Hill in late 2012 or early 2013,
according to statements contained in a police document used to obtain a search warrant.
“Sandro looked after her that day,” according to a Ford staffer who provided the information to police. The police documents also note that Lisi drove Ford, his daughter and his 5-year-old son to the black-tie Garrison Military Ball in February 2013, from which Ford was urged to leave because he appeared impaired.
Also in the vehicle with the Ford children was Ford friend Bruno Bellissimo, referred to in the search warrant documents as a “self-admitted crack user.” Bellissimo was charged two weeks after the ball with with assaulting his parents and threatening to kill his mother — charges for which he was later convicted.
Ford has said little in public about his relationship with Lisi, which has included trips together to Toronto Maple Leafs games.
The mayor wrote a letter on Lisi’s behalf last year, when Lisi was being sentenced for threatening to kill a woman. In the letter, Ford said Lisi was part of his 2010 mayoralty campaign and “worked hard both in and out of the campaign office.”

Ford was last seen with Lisi at the Steak Queen restaurant in Etobicoke, the night the mayor was recorded speaking in a Jamaican patois and calling Police Chief Bill Blair a “----sucker.”
Lisi has been in and out of the court system his entire adult life. He is well known to police as a low-level drug dealer in the north part of Etobicoke, an area that includes the Dixon community that was the focus of the Project Traveller drug and gun raids last year. Lisi lives in his parents’ basement, just east of the Dixon community.
As the saying goes, "A man is known by the company he keeps."

Ford is hobbled and weakened however still enjoys a good amount of support in the city. He has disappointed many, however there is an anti Olivia Chow backlash and there will not likely be a large swing vote Ford Nation to Chow, or Tory for that matter. In the last municipal election, the voter turn out was about 20% higher than in the previous election, and that increase was due to new Ford supporters, not his rate paying suburban base. Those new supporters are still there and may have augmented there numbers, comprised of the common man, people he personally helped or touched, those immune to his misgivings, those who watch vast amounts of America tv and don't care too much about what happens at City Hall. The city is extremely polarized, some mesmerized by Ford's American media persona and some disgusted by it. How will this translate at the poles? How will the image of Toronto, both domestic and international that Ford has brought play out among the electorate? What is the image that the city of Toronto citizens wish to have, it appears not to be so well defined as it would be appear, the city is extremely diverse and complicated on many fronts with many issues? I am repeating some aspects of what I said recently in another post but it will be very interesting to see this October what the fatman on the pipe can do.

Let's just see where she stands on transit and the Gardiner before you hatch that Chicken. If she say proposes to kill the Gardiner she could lose her downtown base. And any cancellation of subways or dithering about the unions could cost her too.

She may be waiting too long. Either she is going to have to run on a similar platform to Tory or find herself promoting unpopular stances to differentiate herself. We shall see.

You must be looking at this through a Ford-lite induced faux-fiscal, neo-conservative suburban haze.

Killing the Gardiner east of Jarvis will only entrench her support with 'downtowners'. Fact is downtowners don't need to use the Gardiner for employment, entertainment and for just plain moving around downtown. It is those in the inner suburbs and surrounding GTA regions that are addicted to their sole occupancy, road congesting vehicles. Alas, tis they and businesses congregated in the downtown and by the lake, and those that deliver to the downtown via the Gardiner that will be impacted with slightly with increased travel times.

You presuppose too much to believe that the majority of electorate is dumb enough to believe the mantra of the mythical fiscal-conservatism, the fantasy of subways, subways, subways and the techno-color dream of Gravy Train city employees.

I expect she is aiming at the 40% left of centre vote composed of about 30% NDP and 10% progressive Liberals hence the campaign includes Warren Kinsella George Smitherman types. Plus she will get a much higher share of the 20% Chinese vote than Miller or Smitherman. Not all of it, just more.

Her team expects the other candidates to divide the 60% centre right votes. There is an urban swing Liberal-NDP vote that moves back and forth depending who can win (strategic anti PC) , local candidates and shifting issues (eg when Libs move too far right these folks go NDP).

The expectation is that a Chinese Liberal will reason, hmmm no real Libs in the race. Some Libs endorse Chow, she would make us proud as first Mayor (Obama black reasoning).

Personally I expect Ford, Stintz and Soknacki to fade and a Tory-Chow race to emerge but a Chow 35% Tory 30% Ford 15%, Stintz 10% Soknacki 5% Other 5% race is shaping up IMHO. Stintz may drop back to city councillor in time to serve in a Tory executive ;)

How much time does Chow have left to serve in Ottawa to get the MP indexed with inflation pension for life? She may not even enter the mayoral race, sit back, wait for her pension and then get an appointment like lieutenant governor of Ontario even. Chow has changed much since Jack Layton passed away, some of her zeal and enthusiasm has been reduced understandably. The John Tory camp may know something, perhaps she is not going to run and that is why Tory decided to get in the race?. With Ford in the race, much more of the diaspora is engaged in voting, but pollsters cannot quantify or qualify this effect.

On the MP pension question: Six years, contributing one dollar for every coupla dozen the taxpayers kick in. Under Harper's fixed elections law, that means a retiring MP'd have to win as few as two elections.

Since you opened this sidebar: The real issue isn't whether MPs deserve pensions, or how generous they should be. Rather it is the transparent and self-serving greed that the continuation of their plan demonstrates, at a time when pension plans for ordinary workers are being shrunk and abandoned, and when OHG resists all efforts to improve the one universal Pension Plan we have. Which, thanks to being insulated from the malign meddling of 'free-enterprise' MPs is doing quite nicely.

Gotta remember, their plan was started when MPs were paid a pittance for re-locating to Ottawa for an uncertain period, having to live in shared apartments* and not seeing their families for months, at a time when the post-war boom meant more and more folks were signing (union) contracts with employers promising pensions as well as good pay.

What we need is a movement to assign the MPs' pension plan to the CPP to operate—as an example to other Plans—and to have the payouts pegged at the average that ten-year teachers and machinists get. People who decide what's in the trough we share should have to drink from it.

OK, back to Poor Picked-on Wobbie Fowd, who never got a bweak.

The Ford Nation's future is now in the hands of their prodigal son, rasclaut Robbie aka bombaclaut Ford, our Toronto's chief magistrate who still enjoys a lot of support in the city. The incumbent may still win if he is not arrested before the election. The October 27 election will make or break Ford Nation. Doug Ford likely dares not run for leader of the provincial Tories due the scrutiny of his past. Rob Ford also has future aspirations to be the PM as well.

As teenagers, they both smoked way too much back in the ravines of Etobicoke, to form any credible plans now. The Boat-in Hotel was my fave. Not that devious backroom folks—who are never in short supply—can't be found to climb aboard their drug-dreams and steer the poor boys on a course that advantages them before abandoning them with the water still flooding in below decks.

PM and Party Leader! That's what they should put on YouTube.
