Maybe someone here can help me here. I am looking for a freeware that can monitor what is trying to leave my computer. I don't want Google chrome, Opera browser and Windows 10 from updating at all. Yes I have tried from inside Windows but it still goes out to contact the mother ship, downloads a 500mb file in 5 minutes.

But when I want to download something it takes for ever.

I am pretty sure Linux has their own programs but are not Windows software.

BTW my computer is a HTPC which rarely I allow to access the Internet. Last time it did the calculator software disappeared and couldn't get it back at all.

Thanks for the help.

I found this....https://www.ghacks.net/2015/12/18/two-windows-10-tools-to-block-automatic-updates/#:~:text=Win%20Updates%20Disabler&text=It%20features%20only%20four%20options,Firewall%20and%20Windows%20Security%20Center.

The latest Windows 10 updates disabled my printer. So I went to setting to uninstall the update and had to re-install my printer drivers. I too would like to disable windows 10 updates.

It is okay to disable the Windows 10 updates in your Settings, if you are not using the internet. But you got to bear in mind that some of the updates are enhanced for your security. Also, the recent Browser update emulates Google Chrome:

For example, I know that the most recent Update in Windows Edge that uses Bing as the browser, enabled better streaming of live sports when compared to Google Chrome. The best 4K videos that I have come across using this Browser. Just bear that in mind.

I use BRAVE browser now.
Damn it's fast and thin/ streamline. Not bloated like others. Also I turned off a few things.

Just turn off automatic updates, turn off "check other products".

Get a cheap VPN like windscribe, custom, one site, and its like 3 bucks a month. Block everything except the one thing you need to update.

Might also need to open the router you use and block ports on it but that will frak up any machines you do want online, unless your router is fancy and allows wired and wireless guest accounts.

Heh. I studied in a time were 4th year non-programmers were paired with programmers, math folks, and sw/ hw engineers, and told to write the best, worst, most insane, unbreakable stuff, then let the non-programmers try.

Best - intrusion counter. In the 80s and 90s this was the fiction of phone phreaking, calculators making thousands of passwords, etc.

Worst - interface. Like, in the time of windows for workgroups, pre 95.

Most insane - file structure. With an even more insane UX. See Worst, above lol

Unbreakable - i had a XT box running dos 5 that was "up" for over a thousand days. Leave your current computer on for a month and see how slow it gets. Also, let people like me push buttons, click options, and see what breaks.

I did that job for money for two years after at a now defunct tech firm. I broke lots of interfaces i still today have no clue what were designed for.

Nobody wants me to decode, edit, and compile a kernel. It will run, pop, smoke, and end up like microwave popcorn left in a minute too long.

But, the smell of burnt capacitors will last forever lol

Everything software breaks in the modern day. Too many bad programmers.

In the long run win10 must update, mainly so micosoft can scan for DRM crap and delete stuff/trogin it. Not so bad on PC but on the Xbox they will format your entire drive on occasion if they not happy with whats on your computer.
However, software that tricks win 10 auto hunt and destroy feature wold be lovely.

Read Google, a lot of information about anonymity on the network

My true anonymity (guarantee) is not letting my HTPC connect the Inet. I only do it when I need special software. During that moment W10 sneaks out.
