1. Take her to dinner. Give her options on where. Avoid movies!!!!!
2. a little alcohol is good, but ask her first. If she says no, follow her lead.
3. Eye contact is good, but too much is creepy
4. Try to find what interests her, but avoid an interrogation
5. If you’re having fun (or even if the date seems stalled), suggest another place to go. Maybe a small live music dance club like the reservoir
lounge.
6. If she’s sending you positive signals, touch her hand. If she responds relax and enjoy what may come next.
7. Assume this date may go nowhere and try to enjoy the conversation and company of another human being.

My advice that seems to work well as a first date ice-breaker (for me) -

• Keep it casual.
• Ask her if she has any food preferences.
• Keep the conversation light but focus on her interests, favorite places to visit, etc.
• Find a common interest and milk it.
• I don't not talk much about myself unless asked and I stay away from conversations regarding former girlfriends or her boyfriends.
• If a former girlfriend topic surfaced, take the high road and 'we drifted apart' rather than a 20 minute rant on what a selfish, cheating bitch she was.
• If I would like a second date, I usually find out if she likes art, any movies she hasn't seen, parts of the city she would like to see, etc.
• We usually have the framework for the second date in place before the first date is finished.

I would appreciate a man who came with a plan, did something different and fun and something I wouldn’t normally just do myself.

But that is just me.

You can ask her some things about what she likes to plan accordingly but I would plan it out and just surprise her.

All kidding aside, I think you need to learn to "be in the moment." That means not thinking so much on what happens next, what to say, what to do, where to go, etc. This also means you need to pay close attention to her verbal and non-verbal cues because they will help to guide you It's very tough to pay attention when you're thinking about the next steps when you don't know if there will be any.

Think back. There had to be some part of her conversation that could provide you with some insight to something that interests her. It would show that you actually were interested in her thoughts.

Nice advice but some people - read post #25 - this is a coin toss up. It appears you are to nice with multiple choice restaurants, but if you already plan the specific restaurant then you are a man of charge, and confidence. But if you succumb to her nagging or will manipulation you are a simp.

I guess it is all in the delivery of your words, tone and body language.
