Many people keep cars for well over 10 years. There's a huge market for used cars because most people can't afford or don't want to buy a new car. Do you have a link to a used EV car dealer, by any chance?
Great news, used EVs are really affordable as well.

A new car will cost you $400 or more a month, plus higher insurance etc. Plus, if you have a reliable (Japanese) car, it's not going to cost a lot to maintain.
My EV 3yr lease was, no money down and $215/month USD. EV vehicle insurance actually went down slightly.
A dealer in WNY is running this ad right now:
New 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV LT
Lease for $169/month, 36 months, 10,000 miles per year, $2,500 cash or trade down plus first payment and DMV fees due at signing

A free tire rotation is the only maintenance done so far on my 2½ yr old EV.

Apples and oranges. I'm not interested in the US market vehicles or prices in US dollars. I'm talking about the Canadian market vehicles.

Today I was at the convience store and a Tesla was there with guy having melt down that his car was charged but won’t start due to the cold weather. He is lucky he didn’t get on highway. He said he full charged it but he only made it to store. Then he said his wifes Tesla conked out the week before after full chrged. I’m diffinately not feeling comfortable yet getting into EV.
Actually this very same problem of vehicle batteries going dead in cold winter climates is far more common with ICE vehicles than EVs.
AAA reports they get very busy in the winter getting calls for help on this very issue every winter. This is even reported on our local TV News channels every winter.
Winter is just hard on all vehicle batteries.

Sure, but you get a charge from CAA and you are good to go.

True good point.
Luckily this has never happened to my EV.

Glad to see you are still around danmand.

Leased my second EV couple months ago and love it! Never going back to ICE. Texans can go drink their oil.

Why does Caddy have to make them so fugly Looks like some sorta filter feeding whale. As for EVs they are so much better then ICE in almost every way.

Capex on EVs is still on the high end, Opex is very attractive, especially if you can charge at home and have reasonable marginal electricity rates. One limiting factor is condo / apartment dwellers can’t take advantage of this. I have noticed a range hit during very cold weather, luckily we get very little of it in Southern Ohio. The driving and towing experience is fantastic, my Rivian R1T is faster than my 2014 Vette was and corners flat, all with off road tires LOL.

Opex is very attractive for me since NY is very EV friendly. 98% of charging is done in garage at home with level 2 charger. There are many EV charger stations available in NY, many Free but not as many Free stations remain as were around 3 years ago. During the coldest winter weather did take a 20% hit on battery mileage range but during hot summer months regeneration picked up 35% battery mileage range!

Used to spend ~$150/month on gasoline. Spent ~$32/month instead for electricity with my first EV.
My second EV with a bigger battery pack runs ~$42/month for electricity, due mainly to electric rates going up but still less than the $150/month spent on my prior ICE vehicle in the past. Plus there are no, oil changes, no anti-freeze and yearly NYS vehicle inspections now cost $10/yr since there is no Emissions to check. In winter heat is electric and instant, since there is no wait for the ICE engine to warm up .
Tire rotations every 7500 miles are the only maintenance required.

Batteries are only improving and getting better. All EVs big and small are quite peppy and want to go! Will probably never go back to ICE.

CATL is the TSMC of batteries, it is a very impressive company. Their new sodium ion batteries are in production now, it is about 1/8 th the cost of LFP batteries. The energy density is lower but all other characteristics are better than LFP, especially cold weather performance; 90% capacity at -25C and requires no battery heater.

It is not only going to change EVs but also the electricity system, when energy density increases it will displace all battery types.

Just 2 years ago the life cycle of sodium ion was only a few hundred cycles and not suitable for production, now it is thousands of cycles and in production. How the fuck do you go from impractical to production in under 2 years? You gotta respect CATL.

We need to allow tarriff free chinese EVs into Canada in exchange china builds battery plants in Canada, we steal all their tech and then kick them out.

Saw an article couple weeks ago that GM was moving to replace current lithium-ion batteries with these new sodium ion batteries. Has there been any confirmation of this?
