Are you infering that some of these folks are thin slinned unstable people who would kill anyone to prove a point?
I would not say ALL are thin skinned. I would only include the clerics and the
Imams who are only in this for their own selfish benefit. They entice the hatred for the Western society merely to solidify the hold on their seat as an authority in the community.

Let me know wha was there:p
The concept of zero and algebra, without either of which, modern technological civilization would not exist. In addition, the system of numbers we currently use. Technically, some of these were developed by the Arabs more than 800 years ago. However, they were not all widely accepted by Europeans until less then 800 years ago. Thus, in that sense, concepts like zero were contributions by Muslims to our civilization in the last 800 years. Moreover, the technological civilization we have developed in the last 800 years would not have been possible without the Arab contributions to mathematics.

You seem to have mistaken me for saying there were zero contributions. I said to list them.

Yes, they came up with zero, zip, zilch, nada. Quite the legacy.

Seriously, I don't think we owe our great technology and the sumation of modern knowledge to the Arabs inventing Zero.

There have been ancient civilizations that have had advanced understanding of math such as the Greeks and the Sumarians. I don't think the Arabs invented algebra.

If you want to talk about Arab history…

Very little is known about the ancient Arabs before Islam. Less than 2% of the population was literate at the time of Mohammad and they were mostly nomadic Bedouins adapted to desert life. They were tough, self-reliant people. They were neither conquered nor did they conquer anybody.

Then came Mohammad and he invented Islam and then everything changed. In the 1st hundred years of Islam the Arabs went on a bloody rampage throughout the known world. They conquered from Spain to Indonesia. They would’ve got Europe too but the Europeans stopped their murderous advance. They killed everyone who wouldn’t submit to Islam and plundered whatever treasure they could find and sold slaves. This was Islam’s “Golden years” where they grew rich and powerful through military conquest and piracy. After that, they accomplished nothing.

The Arabs were relatively peaceful before Islam and after Islam, they became trouble makers. I don’t blame the Arabic people, I blame their religion.

Egyptians. Not necessarily were they Arabs. Eventually, everything ended up inside the Library of Alexandria. And guess who destroyed it to be rediscovered again? So much was destroyed by those C-suckers!

BTW, any more cartoons about that fairytale, bogus religion? You know, the one that dominates women and forces them to wear tableclothes on their heads, hide their bruises and keep them from driving cars? The girls seem to be getting good laughs for once. :D MORE! MORE!

I think the other reason why the average Arab person is angry is because they may feel like they missed the economic boat of the 20th century. They were so caught up in their religous lifestyle that they never approached the standard of living of Europe and North America. There may be a bit of jalousy even though they would never admit it.

Seriously, . . .Yeah right !

We in the west may not owe our great inventions to Arabs but none of which would have been possible without the discovery and knowledge of pure science ... As they were discovered by other world civilization such as Arabs, Persians, Chinese, or Indians.
And just since you seem very ignorant of these well known facts, algebra, chemistry, astronomy, physics, medicine are all mainly Arabic words (the official language of the civilized world at the time)... all your numbers and alphabets are also Arabic base.. So start counting . . .
Else, you would have been counting & writing your numbers in Roman form I, II, III, IIII, V...

---The number system that we use today, or the decimal system of numeration is the Arabic numeral system, actually invented in Ancient Iraq & Egypt an later was written in Arabic
Egyptian & Babylonians (of ancient Mesopotamia) number system was based on using your ten fingers or counting in-group of ten
Same with counting in-group of 60 (sexigesimal number system) for economic purposes, where their principal units of weight and money were the mina, consisting of 60 shekels, and the talent, consisting of 60 mina. They also divided the year into 360 days (6 x 60), the time of one hour into 60 minutes and each minute into 60 seconds.

---As for Algebra, Kharazmi al Hakim from Persia, used the Arabic language to write a book called Algebra to introduce
(Mathematical equations) so later our Isaac Newton could discover the three laws of motion known as Newton's laws
Or
(Introduction of Algorithm) so Abbe Giovanna Caselli in 19th Century could invent his "pantelegraph" and becomes the first person to transmit a still image over wires

---Jabir ibn Haiyan is considered to be the father of alchemy (al-kimyia in Arabic) which was known as the science of converting metal to Gold and Silver, which led us to the discover the 100 elements . . . the rest to be discovered by some other civilization . .

As if the Christians never went on a bloody rampage. They never killed or conquered, sold slaves or converted by force. Oh I forgot, we were quite tolerant of other religons back then and welcomed anyone different from us in open arms. Gimme a break.

Nothing to prevent ignorant yokels like you from sneering at them, I guess. And cheering a savage president who treats their countries as "our" oil.

The argument was about the past, about how they contributed. Besides you can't just generalize an entire religion and ask whether or not they contributed. It's not as if you can refer to them as only nation, e.g. asking if Brazil contributed to the Arts. There are 50 majority Muslim countries on the planet, approximately 1.4 billion of them which totals 22% of the world's population. It is also the fastest growing religion in North America.

Solution

Weber et al. Almost sounds arabic.

If we are so bad here in the evil west and you fel so strongly about the piety and pureness of your Muslim bretheren then I have a solution.

Why don't you and all the other latte sipping, navel gazing idealists go and live with your muslim friends. But heres the catch. While there you can not enjoy any of the fruits of prgress developed by the barbaric west in the last 800 years. You and your friends can sit on a pile of sand without anything.
We on the other hand can enjoy the one or two, possibly more, things that have been developed by us infidels. Practice now and please don't watch the Superbowl on television. As you know it was invented by one of those bastard Englishmen, damn bet he was Christian too.
I'm sure that your "research" will reveal to you what magical communication devices have come from islam in the last 800 years.

Lets think back. In the region we now call the Middle East or the arab world many developments that continue to benefit us arose. That was then, this is now. Don't forget that the brand of islam practices today by the loonie toons that want to kill us evolved from the teachings of mohammed around 600AD. After that particular form of brainwashing started those in the ME no longer needed to think for themselves.

It's the time line OJ follow the timeline.

What an extremely bigoted post! Who gave you the right to ask or even suggest to anyone to leave Canada? I guess it's true...no one group of people, culture or religion hold a monoply on idiocracy and ignorance.

I did not suggest that we force him from Canada, I merely pointed out that if he is true to his convictions then he should ast aside all the trappings of the decadent west and live amongst the more enlightened people. Of course in true white liberal apologist fashion your kind try to attack me with the bigot or racist label rather than address the facts. Fact is they have done squat.

If our world in North American is truly so evil and bad then why have generations of people who want to better themselves come here.

How many Muslims residing in North America do you know are demolishing embassies, committing terrorist acts, burning flags, causing riots? In fact, there is a very high percentage of Muslims in both Canada and the United States that are generally more educated and affluent than the national average. To blame and include Muslims in North America for such things does not make sense. Why should an Indonesian Muslim in Canada take responsibility for something an extremist did in Syria? If a Christian in the Phillipines commited a terrorist act would you or me, a Christian living in Canada take responsiblility for it? I wouldn't. The genocide in Yugoslavia, under Milosovic, how many Orthodox in North America do you see taking responsibility / taking the blame or expressing their concern? You can't label the Muslim world as one group of people. It is too large, and scattered with the people having totally different cultures and different views on certain issues. There is no political unity. As i've mentioned before, there are 50 majority Muslim countries. Surely you don't think they are all the same?

One question here!!

Why don't they attack Al-Jezeers TV headquarters when they show helpless hostages being killed or forced to go on TV.

And they get mad over a cartoon... what is it that I don't understand??

those embassy attacks present an interesting case. Syria is a big time police state, you cannot even breath without the government/secret police knowing about it, so how this spontaneous demonstration got organized without official knowledge is ridiclious, take a look at the demonstrators, mostly fit men in their 30's or 40's clearly Syrian government agents lashing out at the West, this was state sponsored attack on these embassies

the same with Lebanon a whole bunch of the arrested demonstrators today turned out to be Syrians and a few Palestinians
