That's 1 pissed off deer. He wouldn't even let his buddies in on the action..... or his meal?

That's not a food source for deer as far as I know but either way that was at least 2 minutes of straight aggression from that deer. Very uncharacteristic and wild to see. I know deer can be aggressive particularly during mating season but that deer was intent on stomping the soul out of that hawk. Cool to have a window into just what kind of shit goes down in the hood when you live in the wild.

That was a beatdown. I thought that deer were herbivores.

Deer are herbivores (vegetarian). This must have been out of spite for some reason...

I think the deer was out for a meal. I think it did not care if the meal was hawk or rabbit, It even chased off a free loader four times when it tried to horn in on the free meal. While some animals are herbivores and some are omnivores and we humans are mostly carnivores. Deer are mostly herbivories but at times eat other animals. There are many examples in the animal world where they stray off the usual menu.

Squirrels, being primarily herbivores, eat a wide variety of plants, as well as nuts, seeds, conifer cones, fruits, fungi, and green vegetation. Some squirrels, however, also consume meat, especially when faced with hunger.[16][24] Squirrels have been known to eat small birds, young snakes, and smaller rodents, as well as bird eggs and insects. Some tropical squirrel species have shifted almost entirely to a diet of insects.[25]

After the first few seconds of the attack, I thought that the hawk could walk it off.

After the first minute, I figured the hawk was pretty much fucked.

But after the second minute, I thought the deer was going to jump into a jeep and run over the hawk a few times.
