Because The Night - 10,000 Maniacs (Orig. Bruce Springsteen & Patti Smith)
Can't believe I forgot that one - one of my faves! I actually prefer the 10,000 Maniacs cover over the original.

There should be some compilation album of artists doing Bruce Springsteen covers. That would be a great album.
One other great Springsteen cover is the Pointer Sisters' "Fire".

I also like Rod Stewarts version of CCR's "Have You Ever Seen Rain"

And I always liked Garth Brooks cover of Billy Joel's "Shameless".

John Mellencamp's redo of Van Morrison's "Wild Night" was also sensational.

One recent cover that got on my nerves was Sheryl Crowes cover of the Cat Stevens song "The First Cut is the Deepest"
She arranged it and sang it exactly like the Rod Stewart cover. To me if you're not going to bring something new to the table, don't waste people's time with stupid, pointless covers.

I heard Jewel sing a great cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" once. She knocked that one out of the park.
Katie Melua also did a great cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven".

Natalie Merchant was the vocalist for 10,000 Maniacs for their cover version of Because The Night. After Natalie Merchant left, Mary Ramsey took over as vocalist for 10,000 Maniacs. Ramsey did a pretty good cover version of Roxy Music's More Than This on their next album.

Fun topic.

Some of my favorites:

Godhead: "Eleanor Rigby" (we all know who did the original)
Presidents of the USA: "Video Killed the Radio Star" (The Buggles)
Frankie Goes to Hollywood: "Born to Run" (you know who)
Mandy Moore & Michael Stipe: "God Only Knows" (The Beach Boys)
Alien Ant Farm: "Smooth Criminal" (Michael Jackson)
The Communards: "Don't Leave Me This Way" (Thelma Houston)
X: "Wild Thing" (The Troggs)
Joss Stone: "Fell in Love with a Boy" (White Stripes)

And I like these for their camp value...

Shonen Knife: "Top of the World" (The Carpenters)
Faith No More: "Easy" (The Commodores)
Avril Lavigne: "Knocking on Heaven's Door" (Dylan, GNR, Clapton)
Belly: "It's Not Unusual" (Tom Jones)
