But a sexual murderer? That really is to have fallen into the abyss
Yes. His CO said he was a talented officer who did his job very well. He could have made general before long. He certainly managed to keep his personal issues and his job apart.

Of course one could take an employee at Burger King and say they were a great employee and their manager had only great things to say about them, never late, good with customers, etc...and yet the police could raid their house and find a meth lab in the basement. Running the meth lab didn't make the employee a bad employee at work.

Such with a military officer...he could be a top-ranked Colonel with great reports by his Maj Gen. CO... he could have been the best Colonel in the armed forces and be on a fast track to make General...but if the police arrest him for being a serial killer in his after hours life, it doesn't reflect on how well he did his day job, but rather how he spent his personal time.

All true Alexmst, but most sexual murders are not nearly so able to keep their lives in order particularly to Colonel Williams level.

How many people have a record of petty crimes and get turned down for such positions?

While, here we have, allegedly, a ticking time bomb.

In such cases, I might be more inclined to trust someone who occasionally smokes a joint or whatever, instead of someone who seems too straight to be true.

In the Military you are TRAINED in how to handle stress!!! I'm sure his training was a big factor in how he carried his day to day duties.

Indeed that is true, but even well ordered people typically have problems handling a career that involves a lot of responsibility, and stress on top of the stress associated with being a murderer this is not to say that there aren't any other examples, but they are rare.

We'll see what else comes out. This could just be the tip of the iceberg.
Related to what we both have mentioned.

“For me, the surprise is the number of assaults in a relatively short period of time,” [Retired FBI Agent Mark Safarik, formerly of the Behavioral Analysis Unit,] says. “He’s obviously intelligent. He’s careful. So what’s happening with him? Is there some sort of mental decompensation? Did something trigger this?”

If he is guilty, and is not insane, then the magnitude of the shame brought to the Canadian Armed Forces and to his family would be beyond comprehension. A Japanese officer in the same position would undoubtedly commit Hari-kiri. This tragic story is just unfolding and it has a long way to go ....

If it turns out that he truly *is* some kind of remorseless psycho killer, then it's a lucky break for all of us that his weapon of choice wasn't the CF-18.

It would be interesting to know who his VIP passengers were on the Challenger. Today, every one of them must be thinking, "hmfs! That fucking psycho once had my life in his hands"

While doubtless they are indeed saying "Good Lord" or something similar, I doubt he was suicidal.

There are many different types of deranged behaviour covered by the term "psycho," if what is being alleged is true neither crashing the aircraft nor shooting up the neighborhood were his type.

I am in shock right now!!! I had heard about this tragic situation of these women and I didn't put two and two together until I saw his picture. I know this person and I won't say how (only from where he used to live and he used to be going out golfing on Saturday mornings) but he was a very difficult person to deal with ( extremely anal about certain things) and often acted like a prick. Others warned me about him as well. I knew there was something off about him but to know that he has done this... I am speechless.

How many Air Force Colonels do we need? There's less than 400 airplanes in total!
DND is the biggest government department with a budget of over $20 billion. A Colonel is just an EX 1, the lowest level of executive in the federal government. Most of them at that rank are corporate types who are running the department or the institutional Air Force, as opposed to being involved in operations. For example, for the 70-some planes that operate out of Trenton there is only one Colonel in Trenton (the one in jail).

I don't see how there's any shame attendant on the Canadian Forces.

Just going to mention the white elephant and see what happens:

The purpose of having a military is to kill other people. It's what they do. Maybe that is how he was able to kill people and go to work and act normal, in his mind, all part of the job?
