City Hall Racist Ad

Personally, I don't give a damn where you or your forefathers(mothers) came from. However, I do care that you adhere to Canadian laws and values (whatever that means nowadays).
.

*applauding* Very well said.
Also I worry that an ad like this will make this certain group feel singled out as being the most hated group in Canada. Making Islamaphobia seem like a bigger issue than it actually is. I don't know if anyone else shares this concern? As u said, the ad makes it look like people are all picking on Muslims and its just not the case. Not every Canadian is Islamaphobic, not all racism and prejudice is aimed or reserved only for Muslims, so.. what gives? Thanks for this SkYRider, I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Question: Why does City Hall think people are picking on Muslims? There must be a couple of dozen or more ethnic groups in Toronto and yet the ad specifically mentions Muslims.
Really Skyrider, really? You claim that the City Hall ad is racist and at the same time you insinuate (in a way Trump would be proud of) that Muslim immigrants don't adhere to Canadian laws and values. Maybe you've answered your own question, if you care to ponder on it a little.

...and why does this ad feature a white male as the perpetrator? It portrays people like me as a likely racist, which is nothing less than reverse racism. If it was meant to indicate that middle eastern peoples are targets of abuse, could they not have used an asian female as the abuser in the ad, or do the the ad's creators not believe that this could happen. Believe me, I know many woman and minority persons who are clearly racist.

I don't mean to nit pick or to suggest that there are no issues of harassment that occur, it's just that this ad portrays people such as myself in an unfair manner. If it had shown the hypothetical asian woman (or insert description of any visible minority) as the abuser, all hell would have been raised...

This board is a fine example of why that City Hall ad makes sense.
And skyrider, have you read any of your posts lately?

You're white and you're straight which means you're a homophobic islamophobe. If you're not a woman add misogynistic.

...and why does this ad feature a white male as the perpetrator? ...

The common thinking among these social justice warriors who produce ads like this is that only white people are racist, so is no surprise they could not anticipate or appreciate or care that white people would feel insulted that they portrayed white guys as the racist in this city sponsored promotion. Anyone at city hall would be labeled as Islamophobic if they did anything other than approve this promotion.

Obviously a racist AD.

Anybody who can't see that, is a racist.

One of which, has already made this clear on this thread already, in a cowardly way also.

The term and usage of the word Islamophobia came from the extreme right wing, largely from the US, though also from France and Britain. Linking its usage with the largest demographics of right wingers is just identifying where its coming from and targeting the ad to hit that demographic.

If the shoe fits, you're going to have to wear it.

Just so that I understand your point, you're telling us that right wing individuals (female as well???) are solely responsible for "Islamophobia" and that linking this demographic provides you with everything you need to know about this issue? I guess you feel that all "right wingers" are white males. No left leaning individuals are capable of such behaviour?

You seem quite happy to generalize and point fingers at a pretty wide swath of society. This is just bigotry while using politically correct ideology as your cover. Why don't you try that shoe on for size???

They could have done many things if the intent of the ad was to promote understanding and inclusion. The intent of the ad is to portray white guys as racist.
There are rabid racists among all groups in the GTA. The authors of the ad may have had good intentions but the ad itself is unfair.

It's amazing that in a country where we do something useless and stupid like changing the wording of our national anthem for the sake of political correctness, we also allow ads like this.

Islamophobia exists in the same way that Naziphobia, Murderphobia and Pedophilephobia exist.

Sheer and utter nonsense.

Read a biography about Muhammad the founder of Islam - murderer, rapist, slave master / trader. Read the Koran and the Hadith - ironically because it is called a "religion" it gets a total pass with regards to hate speech laws. Simply beyond comprehension.

Call me an Islamophobe if you like - I call it rational, common sense thinking.

The comments so far on this thread shows that this ad is unnecessary and divisive. No need for it. Another example of politicians and special interest groups dumping their agenda on us.

Doubt the ads will go up, or stay up for long. People will start writing in their own creative text over the two existing balloons.

You forgot Pedophile.

I believe Aisha was one of Mohammed's 12(?) wives. She was 6 years old when he married her and 9 years old when he raped her.

Call me an Islamophobe too since I don't totally agree with everything Muslims do or say.

BTW: I also don't totally agree with everything Christians do or say either.
