Yes, an established car company with a factory to be retooled. What you want is a new Canadian company right?
if you can bring in a new company from China, why is it so wrong to have a "new Canadian company"? how "established" do you thin BYD is compared to the car companies we have here? Honda has a big plant here in Ontario. GM as well. Heck Tesla and Hyundai already have the market for EV in north America.....your post doesn't make sense.

Do you really think that the very rare EV fires make them output as much CO2 as fossil fuel vehicles and the fossil fuel industry?
Its pretty rare if you are talking tesla. Not so rare if you are talking chinese EV brands.

There is an official tesla fire tracker. But in china you can only infer the amount of byd or chinese ev fires through insurance claims.

On a positive note, if we do build BYD factories here we can import the slave labour here

what butler doesn't understand that Chinese based companies don't abide by laws and regulations most of the time....if they can pay anyone for the shortcuts, they will... most knock off brands in amazon are proof...they sell it and hope nothing happens to it and it does minimal of what it's suppose to do. if you return it, you will most likely buy a different one made by the same company....and hope that works instead.

This winter, going about my routine, I counted 7 dead Tesla's on the road. I'm assuming the extremes world at both ends.

BYD has problems in Europe, they cannot match VW/Audi for scale.

Have you ever heard the phrase "Man Bites Dog"?

the salient point is:

Analyses drawing on U.S. sales data and fire incident reports show approximately 25 fires per 100,000 electric vehicles sold, compared with about 1,500 fires per 100,000 gasoline-powered vehicles.
But the more interesting stat is that there is 1 ICE vehicle fire every 2-3 minutes. That means that if response takes 30 minutes, there are 10-15 ICE cars burning right now in the USA alone.

Now do chinese EVs. You know what is funny. China's ministry of fire and rescue did actually publish stats once. That article has been scrubbed within the firewall and i suspect you will never see official statistics again.

Lol. All those are FOREIGN owned car companies.

I'm the one that suggested they partner with an existing car company in Canada, use a line not being used at the moment, and start building.

The major problem however, is parts supply. We can build lots of parts. And supply the raw materials. But we can't build batteries, or refine the rare earth's to make them. Yet. We also don't know how to do these things at scale. Basically the Chinese are the major world supplier for this. We recently turned down another Chinese offer to set up because of this.....

As noted above, unless we learn to make the major parts, it adds little value. So importing a few at this point, which is what the deal is, makes sense. Mainly because we thawed things, and actually lessened our trade imbalance by a few billion with them.

We can now develop the raw materials side, learn to make the batteries, and eventually set up shop. But it's not a switch you can just turn on.

Carney has the yellow fever. Maybe he should go to GG to satisfy this instead of selling out our country and putting us under a communist regime.
Nation was already sold to the USA. Time to move on.

I do, hence wanting to build here, under our regulations. What you don't understand is not every single Chinese product is shoddy. They have to meet standards overseas for things like this or lose the market.
Absolutely I won't order off TEMU. But I did order a French E-bike three years ago build to their standards in China for the parts. Zero issues. And the battery has held charge, and remains cool to the touch.

Most battery fires are not manufacturing related, they are modification related. People break charging ability to allow faster charging, or to increase charge size. This causes damage. And accidents can do this as well. Owners continuing to drive damaged cars.

The point here is we all know you would rather partner up with China that US because you don't like the POTUS. You don't like Elon....what you fail to see is that our interests are parallel to the US no matter how you see it.... Canada can make EVs....without China. You can hate Trump and make the Tariffs the reason why you don't wanna any US deals....had Obama implemented that tariff you guys with be fine with it.

People act like gasoline cars never burn lol. Electricity causes over 2000 residential fires in Canada each year, I am guess that switching back to candles would be worse. 🤷‍♂️

What you seem to not see is that our interests with the USA are not aligning now, are they? And its not the person, its the policy.

Trump is the one who named us enemy, and has stated he would ruin us economically. And has Implemented POLICY to harm us. I have no real issues with Tesla. Trump put the tariffs in as a means of creating a problem to self solve. When there wasn't one.

And we can't make EV's without China. We can't make the batteries. Yet. Thats the point.

Trump showed us we are too reliant on the USA, and they are not our friends. We have to diversify. In fact Trump is literally blowing up the post WW2 order of things. And we are now better off with less dealings with them, and more with the world.

Bullshit.. he never named Canada enemy . In fact... the Liberals are the one who made him the villain. Just because he said what his interests are doesn't mean he hates Canada. lol...

This is not the language of someone who is even remotely respectful of the long trade and security relationship we have shared.

You want to support this fucker go ahead, but this nation is going to continue a grassroots boycott, continue to slowly enact policy to lessen our reliance on the unreliable, continue to reach out to the world at large in a normal fashion. And never forget that 77 million Americans agree with the fucker. Thats its not just one man.
