Then what do we need BYD for?
We get them, at this point to say partner with Stellantis, and open a line in Ontario. Design is licensed, and made here.

Or, they set up a full independent shop here. It will take years to get there, while we develop the Ring of Fire for critical elements. The industry includes battery tech. Thats the major thing we need, we can do the rest.
.but it's all inspected under Canada rules. Raises the price. But if the numbers work then they work. And export to Europe becomes cheaper for them.

What if quality control at Canadian standards makes the cars just as expensive as North American ones? Again, what do we need them for?

If that's the case the deal doesn't work.

Right now the deal is for 49,000 cars per year. There is NO GUARANTEE they even sell that many. Its just a number they CAN sell tariff free. If they start having issues and safety concerns, people won't buy them, will they? And the government at that point can step in with safety standards to be met(if they aren't already, remember Europe already has them, China must comply for that market, so its no extra burden to meet ours).

My suggestion is, obviously in the long run to enter the USA market once a better admin comes in.

Just to add about European standards. I know they have the strictest for E-Bikes. Its why I chose a French model. Manufacturing in China, but must meet European laws. I imagine the same applies for vehicles. We just tell them to ship those if they want in the market.

Its why they should allow them to be built here. That way we can put it quality control.
Not a chance China would allow that. They may allow some assembly to happen here, that's about it.

So your idea is, we bring a failing low quality brand and not improved what we already have here since we're better at quality control or start our own?
Sure, happy to see an all Canadian car company. Who are the investors? The engineering team? The management team?

BYD considers third European plant and battery factory - electrive.com https://share.google/YHUsl26IMNk5zt2rx

They already do in Europe. And developing battery plants as well.
Do the math. Europe has more than 10 times Canada's population. Plus EV has been mandated in many countries there. Furthermore, Europe is strict on international trade they probably required a minimum number of vehicles to be manufactured within Europe.

We can be too. And Trump is gone in three years. Which means the US market, if a car company fronts it, partners, they will be allowed into the USA.

Meanwhile we learn how to process rare earth's from the new mines. It will take years, but that's good forward investment.

You really want to be forced to use fossil fuel while watching this war continue?
