In the grand scheme of things, I really don't care. It's not the affair so much itself but the circumstances of the affair.
Tory was fucking his employee and considering the position of power that he's in ie) Mayor of the economic powerhouse and largest fucking city in Canada, that's a huge lapse in judgement. You think his side piece didn't benefit in some way or could have used the compromising position she had him in to benefit?
Well, now that your goal is achieved are you finished posting here? When you see a quote in

Agree. I can think of an example down south that did the same thing, kept his job as the most powerful man in the world. Plans to run for Office again no less, half the country will still vote for him, accusations of adultery be damned. Why is Johnny any different? Adultery is no longer a mortal sin in 2023.Damn, if he paid some hush money then there was no need to resign!!
Given his profile, he is likely loaded with money, I bet he can live comfortably with half his accumulated wealth (if he is not grabbed quickly to serve on any one of several board of directors of a Fortune 500 company) and I can guarantee that there will be women willing and waiting in the wings to happily cavort with and spend his money. It would be hard to part with half his money, no matter how many people might tell him that life will actually be better, especially when there's no better woman waiting for him.
He will still get his Rogers salary, I'm sure that's all he really needs to live on.Given his profile, he is likely loaded with money, I bet he can live comfortably with half his accumulated wealth (if he is not grabbed quickly to serve on any one of several board of directors of a Fortune 500 company) and I can guarantee that there will be women willing and waiting in the wings to happily cavort with and spend his money.
Rumour is Barb isn't innocent of these things either. More likely is Tory is dealing with an extortion demand that failed and he knows he can't govern because of the scandal with an employee junior to him. Best for all that he walksHere's a link to Toronto Council's Code of Conduct: https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/accountability-operations-customer-service/accountability-officers/integrity-commissioner/code-of-conduct-for-members-of-council/#:~:text=Members should act with integrity, and bears close public scrutiny.
These isn't anything there that explicitly prevents politicians from having relationships with staff. There's just an obligation to avoid conflicts of interest and to act in a way that bolsters public confidence. I doubt they could have removed Tory for breach of the Code. I say this as someone who doesn't like Tory personally or like his policies for the city. (I would also concede that there are certainly FAR worse options, 2 of which have already said they are considering running). I read the Sanfiro web material that someone else linked, but frankly, like Sanfiro always is, the material is a little contradictory and superficial. Goes with the territory of representing the employee side of employment law disputes.
I think the decision to step down is ENTIRELY about Tory trying to avoid getting fleeced by a divorce. He needs to give Barb 100% of what she wants right now, including his time and the right optics, if he has any shot at that. Frankly, I'd say his chances are poor. She probably knew that John was getting serviced elsewhere (what else would an intelligent woman think when she isn't taking care of business?). Why else would she vamoose to Florida all through Covid? As usual, her "horrified" reaction is likely more about the public exposure that they have a sexless/loveless marriage than about the reality that she probably is mostly to blame for that.
The reality is that we live in a society where a woman can completely let her husband down sexually/emotionally, but men are considered to be the villains when they solve the problem their wife created.
Her decision whether to divorce Tory will be mostly about whether she's happier with 50% of his money and an open calendar vs. 100% of his money and lots of events in posh social circles. Might be a hard decision for her. It will have nothing to do with whether they can rekindle any romantic relationship, cause that's deader than Dead John A. MacDonald!

This comment sums up perfectly why Toronto has deteriorated over the last 15 some odd years and will never become a world-class city.In the grand scheme of things, I really don't care.
Good in what way? If I were to say if the city is better or worse off in the last 8 years of his reign, I would say it's worse.Tory was a good mayor thus far, well accomplished and was in the process ( technical still is) in working on the 2023 budget.
However he put his own head on a platter by his actions and voluntarily said he would resign.
Tory full well knew the game, the consequences and hoisted himself with his own petar. This is how the electoral process works and if a worse mayor comes than so be it.
It doesn’t matter if some of the public forgives him or not, he wants to go and should go as he will increasingly morph into a ‘lame duck” mayor if he decides to linger. The Mayoral- MLSE trail will be intensify and further handicap Tory as time goes by.
Likely more than one lady has spread her legs on Mayor Tory’s casting couch in the past and more scandals maybe coming.
Tory’s family life is neither here nor there in this egregious lapse of judgment which will cost the City of Toronto hundreds of millions of dollars if he stays or goes.
That's why he screwed over Toronto council right before an election, to make sure the burbs outvote the downtown. This guy is the Premier talking like this.
Leaving the city with a 5.5% property tax increase.John looks beaten up. I like him but for his own well being stepping down is probably the best thing.
To make things clear, I do care about the city. Lived here my whole life. While it's not perfect (name one city of 3 million that is) it's far better than a lot of places on earth. What I don't care about is what consenting adults do behind closed doors. In the the case of Tory, he paid the price, he's resigned now let's move on. You seem to sweat the little things. What are you, a member of the morality squad? This comment sums up perfectly why Toronto has deteriorated over the last 15 some odd years and will never become a world-class city.
Please tell us how you would solve housing, transit, public services, homelessness, mental health, drugs, violent crime and infrastructure issues. News flash, it's not as easy as you think. Perhaps a Mayor who leans far to the left would solve everything. lolGood in what way? If I were to say if the city is better or worse off in the last 8 years of his reign, I would say it's worse.
The city is several crises in a trench coat: housing, transit, public services, homelessness, mental health, drugs, violent crime, infrastructure, basic amenities...
