It's going to get worse depending on who the next mayor is unless the Province pitches in with more funds.Leaving the city with a 5.5% property tax increase.

The strong Mayor powers are granted to whomever is Mayor. If a "non-corrupt" left wing (as we know left wing politicians are never corrupt) Mayor is voted in next time, they will have the same powers. I can guarantee you, they won't be complaining about them like they were when they were granted to Tory. lolThat's why he screwed over Toronto council right before an election, to make sure the burbs outvote the downtown.
Then he gave his pal Tory extra mayoral powers.
So of course he's now totally pissed that a left winger might actually get in and be able to do some non corrupt governing.
Same here.i have read all the comments here....a leftie a rightie..i dont care.....i just want a mayor and city council to clean up a dirty city...fix potholes which i dodge on a daily basis and show some compassion for the poor and homeless..with meaningful action not empty words and wringing of hands

10% increases coming to towns around the greenbelt to cover for Ford letting developers off of development fees. It's going to get worse depending on who the next mayor is unless the Province pitches in with more funds.
Because we all know a left leaning Mayor would never raise taxes like that.Leaving the city with a 5.5% property tax increase.
If only the left were running everything, we wouldn't have any issues in the city and everything would be perfect. You live in dreamland.10% increases coming to towns around the greenbelt to cover for Ford letting developers off of development fees.
Tory didn't do anything to help the city, even his transit plan is a bit of a shitshow, Metrolinx is building it while the TTC deals with Rob Ford's expansion plans stealing resources from general maintenance.
TTC rates go up, service sucks and its less safe.
We'd get service increases with higher taxes at least.Because we all know a left leaning Mayor would never raise taxes like that.
If only the left were running everything, we wouldn't have any issues in the city and everything would be perfect. You live in dreamland.
That may change as the property taxes go up.Why would the Province pitch in with more funds to the city (Toronto) with the lowest property tax rate in the entire province of Ontario?
He went through COVID and handled it well. It isn't a surprise the City has to now claw and scratch its way back out. I don't believe anyone else would have handled it better. We shall see what the new incoming mayor does but it will not be an easy job.10% increases coming to towns around the greenbelt to cover for Ford letting developers off of development fees.

You're living in dreamland if you think that by simply electing left leaning politicians, it will solve everything. There's already lots lefties on council and guess what, Tory's budget passed with a vote of 25-1.We'd get service increases with higher taxes at least.
Ford keeps cutting services, health care and education.
Developers get tax breaks and we have to pay for them under Ford.
Tory didn't fix anything.
Of course it won't solve 'everything'.You're living in dreamland if you think that by simply electing left leaning politicians, it will solve everything. There's already lots lefties on council and guess what, Tory's budget passed with a vote of 25-1.
As for the province, how well was it being run by the Liberals? You must have a short memory. Why do you think they were voted out and left with just 7 seats.
Here's a few reasons, in case you've forgotten.
- Ornge
- Skyrocketing hydro rates
- Cancelled gas plants
- Cuts to front-line health care
- eHealth
- Doubling the debt
- School closures
- Lining the pockets of Liberal insiders
- PanAm Games
- Liberal waste
Your assertion that Conservatives are corrupt and Liberals aren't is simply laughable.
I was surprised by how little GTA residents pay compared to myself. Why would the Province pitch in with more funds to the city (Toronto) with the lowest property tax rate in the entire province of Ontario?
Did you even read my post to Frankie? I said his assertion that Conservatives are corrupt and Liberals aren't is simply laughable. I was commenting on the fact that the provincial Liberal were voted out because of their record and listed examples.Well then, how is Trudeau still the PM for 8 years?? You can't get more liberal, than Justin. Interestingly enough, Doug Ford is becoming a closet liberal. Doug is best friends with Chrystia Freeland, and always does photo ops with the PM.
It's not surprising when you factor in everything.I was surprised by how little GTA residents pay compared to myself.![]()
You need to clarify the difference between policies you disagree with and corruption where money or influence passes between people.Did you even read my post to Frankie? Trudeau may have won the last two elections, but he's far from popular. With 33.12% of the vote for the Liberal Party, led by incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the 2019 election ranked second (with the 2021 federal election ranking first) for the lowest vote share for a party that would go on to form a single-party minority government.
Because everything was great, health care, education, the Greenbelt and transit after the previous 15 years of Provincial Liberals. Wow, you must have a bad memory.Of course it won't solve 'everything'.
But it won't make things as bad as Ford has done with health care, education, greenbelt and transit.
Dougie has become a middle-of-the-ground rightie just like John was and this is the type of Conservative that can actually beat a Liberal candidate, not a Pee Pee who shakes hands with fringe yahoo twats and deals in misinformation, nonsense and bullshit. The problem is, we don't know if Doug Ford is a conservative, or liberal??
Its a combo of bigger distances for services/roads and property valuesIt's not surprising when you factor in everything.
Property tax rates vary across the province and are based on the size of municipalities, the council's operating budgets, and the value of the local housing markets. Larger urban centres like Toronto for example, can offer a lower rate due to the greater number of taxpayers and higher housing prices. In other words, density makes a big difference. A smaller, more rural community will have higher tax rates due to a smaller population and fewer resources for the area.
340 acres, that's how much land was changed by Wynne in the Greenbelt.Because everything was great, health care, education, the Greenbelt and transit after the previous 15 years of Provincial Liberals. Wow, you must have a bad memory.
Speaking of the Greenbelt, were you aware of what the Liberals did with parts of it years ago? I guess it only gets attention when Conservatives touch it. By the way, they're adding more than they're taking out.
"One of the other myths is that the land that is the Greenbelt now must always be in the Greenbelt, it cannot change. The truth is, the former Wynne Liberal government took land out of the Greenbelt at least 17 times and I don’t recall an uproar, a fuss or claims that paradise was being paved over for a parking lot.
In at least one instance, with Wynne’s decision to allow land to be taken out of the Greenbelt, much of it was turned into a parking lot. A section of land off near Bronte Creek off of Appleby Line was removed from the Greenbelt by the Wynne government – it’s now a giant Lowe’s hardware store.
In another case, a series of lots in Vaughan were taken out of the Greenbelt to allow the construction of at least six massive homes backing onto protected land adjacent to the Humber River. These McMansions come complete with swimming pools and in one case a tennis court – it’s not solving the housing crisis unless you are already loaded.
The Wynne Liberals allowed lands to be taken out of the Greenbelt in Hamilton, Oshawa, Clarington, East Gwillimbury, Markham and even wetland adjacent lots in Pickering. Some of that land became housing, some is currently being used for a golf course and some hasn’t been developed at all but was still taken out."
