The bats are heating up but the pitching is slipping. Gausman looked so good early on but is struggling now. Another rough outing today. Batters are taking his splitter which usually ends up out of the strike zone. Commentators suspect he's tipping off batters. Hopefully Pete Walker can come up with a fix.

AL East is red hot now. They are 32 games above .500 and NL West is 25 games over.

A week ago NL West was ahead 27-22.

Maybe but that is not how he's used that pitch to date. He's used it as a "chase pitch". He will need to make adjustments to have it land in the strike zone consistently, and hopefully have enough stuff so that batters do not make solid contact.

Another great start by Manoah. He has some of the best stats in the majors. Kirk continues to impress and surpass expectations with a 4 hit night.

Kirk will one day win the batting title. It's mind boggling that he never played AA or AAA ball, made the jump to majors from single A.

Kirk has an exceptional batting eye,he could become the Jays version of Tony Gwynn...but he has to control his weight first.

The same could have been said for Gwynn though and things out just fine for him.

Some guys just seem to be able manage it and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Jays have a real gem in this player and he's getting better on both sides of the ball......Scary.

So Oracle was correct. His weight didn't impair his hitting or his value to the team. It worked out.

I'll rephrase my statement, Alejandro Kirk can hit like Tony Gwynn...if he doesn't end up like Pablo Sandoval. He won three WS with the SF Giants but couldn't control his weight, they didn't try to resign him and his career went through the floor.

Btw the game is on YT, Tapia having a good game...YT commentary (no comercials). They're eating BBQ!
