Just because Moreno is a catcher now doesn’t mean he’ll always be a catcher. Carlos Delgado was a catcher in the minor leagues. So was Craig Biggio. If Moreno can hit, he’ll have a place somewhere in a big league lineup.
My Yankees have got some big problems.
Firstly their opening day top three relievers are all on the IL. That being Chapman, Green and Loaisiga. Zack Britton is still recovering from Tommy John surgery and just started throwing bullpen sessions so he's ways off.
Stanton, Donaldson are down as well. Donaldson has an inflamed should and received a cortisone injection for it. Stanton has a Calf/Achilles issue. I keep on thinking about Kevin Durant when I hear that one.
D.J. LeMahieu got a cortisone injection in his wrist over the weekend so he's banged up as well. Hicks and Gallo between them have 14 RBI's and their catching combination is dead last in the league at the dish.
Their AAA affiliate in Scranton is struggling and there are not many MLB ready options down there. Miguel Adujar was the best and he has been called up. They had to resort to signing Matt Carpenter on an emergency basis.
Judge is carrying the team hitting with some help from Rizzo and Torres. Their lineup at present shouldn't scare anyone.
Now what they do have is outstanding starting pitching. Ranked third behind the Dodgers and Astros right now. And their new closer Clay Holmes has only allowed one earned run in 25 innings. Chapman's days as their go to guy in the 9th are finished I would say.
All in all the Jays have a better all around team at present and should pick up some serious ground in June............

They are the richest team is baseball but spend behind the Mets and the Dodgers. Not by much granted.
It will be interesting if Judge walks at the end of the season.

Now's the time for Jays to make a serious run at the Yanks and Rays, their next opponents , Chisox 23-23, Tigers 18-29 and O's 21- 29 are at .500 or under with exception of the Twins. 29-20.

However, I think that they'd be more willing to spend to hold on to a lead than to spend money to chase.
Regardless, I think that it's too early. Let's see where they stand in 3 or 4 weeks.
For Kirk, the baseball is like a beachball to him. He's on a tear.

I feel bad for the guy as he was a true teammate on the Jays last year and from a media perspective, he was a good guy.
Hopefully he comes around and ends up with decent numbers.
That being said, on the Jays wins predictions thread, I thought they were going to be around the .500 mark (and hoping I was wrong) as I felt that many players had very good (almost career) years last year and they would need to come down to earth at one point.
Hopefully they prove me wrong.
Even if he bounces back this year and/or has 2 more good years, the Jays still made the right decision to walk away from a huge 7 year deal. He turns 32 in September. Very few players are worth that kind of money after the age of 35. I am sure most fans can come up with a list of good and great players that played way below the value of their contracts in their later years.

Beasley has three starts among twelve appearances for Buffalo this year. He's a 6'2", 235 lb RHP. He's had great numbers for Buffalo this year, but was unimpressive in 9.1 innings for the Jays last year.

Shocked at both Semien and Ray. I can only assume that they're just taking a while rounding into form. All the Jays own roster stats are way below normal for this season, aside from some of the pitching staff.
Ray looks lost without Pete Walker. Speaking of Da Judge, it's been suggested that like George Springer, he has a fondness for Canada....that remains to be seen.
I was shocked to learn that Alejandro Kirk is only 23, I thought he was in his late 20's. He needs to take his health seriously if he wants a long term career. Otherwise he'll hit a wall like Prince Fielder and Pablo Sandoval.
