I agree that he is an early front runner. I am a bit concerned that they are using him so much this early in season. They need him firing on all cylinders late in the season if they hope to qualify for the post season and go deep.
The Jays have the lowest batting average with RISP in the American League. It may be a bit under .170 Next worse is about .190
Tough loss, Teo is expected to be in lineup tonight, protection for Vladdy, Gausman on the mound, Bo's bat is hot, Kirk is heating up, hopefully run woes will be over.
Scoring is down all over. They were saying on the Tiger cast that no team is averaging 5 runs a game. I remeber people saying the Jays could be counted on for 5 runs a game. Good to get Teoscar back. I believe Gurriel is a good player - but a bust as a cleanup hitter.
One solution I would offer to overall scoring. Get the umps to stop giving pitchers the low outside pitches. Force the pitches to come into the zone.

The problem with Grichuk has been getting on base. He just doesn't draw walks. But he has power, can produce runs and plays decent defense.
Tapia is a different type of player. Not a power type but is a good contact hitter, can get on base and can run. The problem as I see it right now is he's trying to do too much. He's not being as patient at the plate and he's trying to be something he's not, a hard hitting power type. Still his xBA of .286 suggests he's been a bit unlucky so far (hitting .222).
I am ok with Tapia being more of a contact hitter who can put the ball in play often with above average speed on base paths. It is also a bonus that he hits from left side because the Jays are right dominant.
My concern is with Tapia's defense. Based on what I have seen so far he is not that good in the field and has a weak arm. A good 4th outfielder should be at least decent at all 3 positions. Grichuck was average in centre and a bit above average in the corners. Jays are keeping Zimmer right now because he is much better than Tapia defensively and can play centre when Springer is DH or taking a day off. They would have more roster flexibility if Tapia was decent in CF. Scouting reports say he can play all 3 fields. I have seen no evidence of that so far. I hope the scouting reports are right and that I am wrong with my assessment of Tapia's defense.

As long as the pitchers keep throwing them low and away and umpires either call it or the Jays swing at it, the BA will be way down especially with men on base. And how about Chapman. We were told not to worry that he only hit .210 last year because of injury. Now he is hitting under .200 and looks lost at the plate like many of them. All the good third base play does not make up for .190 at the plate.
