Trade him and that bloated salary?, you can't give him away let alone trade him.
One can always dream.

Too bad there isn't an MLB team in Vegas. Or even the Jays former AAA team.

AA was a raw young pup when he got the job and Shaps was already this high-falootin exec of the year. As such it is understandable that AA would need a much longer learning curve. As well, Shaps inherited a very strong team which has gotten worse each of his two years and could possibly be even worse this year, while AA inherited a fairly shitty team. He made some missteps but he kept giving us hope as well as build a family of an organization. The players could tell that he was passionate and sincere. He created an atmosphere that developed loyalty throughout all areas. Shapeero is a corporate cost cutter.

As well, the talk that Shaps could not improve the team with what AA left him is pure speculation. We never got a chance to see what AA could have done and it is a convenient excuse now.
I could not agree more. Fact are facts.

A relative of mine currently works VERY closely with AA in the Dodgers organization, and the inside word is all the shit talk about how he knew he wasn’t coming back, so he tried to create a great chance at winning by trading all the assets, has a well-known undertone for being an excuse for the fact that he never even had a chance to really show what he can do.

Shapeero chased out AA because Shapeero needed his fingers in every pie.

I never believed that AA went for broke.

His main plan was to build an organization that could field a contending team every year. He made bold moves and traded some young talent, but at the same time he developed a system for drafting and developing new talent. As such, he never really sacrificed the future for more than a year of two. In the meantime, what he fielded at the Skydome stayed competitive for almost 2 years under Shapeero's supervised neglect.

Somewhere but not here.
For those looking to reload and go for it in 2020 it better be done right or it could be a 1 and done. After the 2020 season your going to lose Sanchez. Stroman, Osuna, Pillar, Travis to FA.

Ya, but he gets paid by Toronto. Traitor, which can easily transition into trade 'em.
Traitor?

Seems a little over the top, no?

Jays traded for another infielder, Yangervis Solarte, from the Padres for 2 lower prospects.
Versatile player , has some pop with low strikeout rate. Should be an upgrade over Barney Rubble.

Missed numerous games the last 2 yrs. because of injury. Last thing the Jays need is another player who can’t stay healthy.

Unfortunately, to get back to the playoffs we need impact players.

Typical move for Shapeero in his Toronto tenure. Meh.

900 + plate appearances and 2 short DL stints the last 2 years. I wouldnt call that injury prone.

If no major trades happen Jays will finish last in AL east.

Maybe if we're real lucky 4th place ahead of Tampa

Phil they just traded for Yangervis Solarte, a highly regarded utility infielder from the highly regarded Padres! Why would you say "NO Major Trades" and how can you possibly be worried about the Jays finishing last? Atkins and Shapiro have everything under control, fear not! Just remember they have the fans best interest at heart, the lousier the team the easier it is to find good seats!(If you want them!)

Some of his games missed in 2017 were a result of his wife's illness (he left the club to be with her & his family) & subsequent death.

I don't say it often but kudos to Shapiro/Atkins on this one. This is a solid pickup and it cost us squat. Solarte is a switch hitter and has pop in his bat and makes good contact. 2016 he was injured but 2017 he missed extended time due to personal matters, as gcostanza stated.

Ok. All good stuff. But is a trade like this going to get the Jays to the playoffs without some major moves (plural)?

I never believed that AA went for broke.
One of the things that differentiates baseball from other sports is gauging young talent. Prospects in baseball can be hit and miss. If you have a good stable of young prospects and you have a chance to flip some of them for proven major league talent, then that is a smart play. AA played that card at the right time.

Another thing that AA had going that year was that the Jays had a very strong offense and had a huge plus run differential. That is an important stat in baseball. Chances are, a huge plus run differential puts you at the top oif the league (not always, but most times). If you are ever in that position, shore up your pitching and defense and see what happens.

On a separate note, any word on Bautista? Is he retiring?
