so NOW gibby has said Sanchez is going to the bullpen at somepoint. Jeez....

Okay this is getting really confusing. Atkins keeps doing interviews (like yesterday) where he basically says there taking a wait and see approach with Sanchez, and if he continues to pitch the way he has, he won't be going anywhere. Mean while Gibby said he will be going to the pen the day I posted this back on June 14th. I guess Gibby and Atkins aren't on the same page?

I'm glad to hear Atkins say this because there is no formula for knowing if someone's body can handle a certain amount of innings. If Sanchez comes undone at the end of the season, so be it. You keep running him out there until he shows otherwise. Lots of pitchers in the history of baseball have gone on to pitch far more innings from when they were in the minors and have had no problems.

Let the kid pitch. He's one of the best in baseball right now, you don't fuck with that.

Sanchez pitched great today, taking 2 of 3 anywhere is always good.
I think Stroman's crappyness may keep him in the rotation.

I have never been a John Gibbons basher, but I was baffled by two decisions he made in today's game.

1.Top of the 8th, Jays get the first two hitters on, now Sanchez is due up. He's thrown 96 pitches, but Gibby doesn't pinch hit for him, which surprised me, although Sanchez proved him right by coming out and pitching well to get through the bottom of the 8th. But the real head-scratcher was instructing Sanchez not to sacrifice bunt, and instead stand like a statue at the plate and take a strike out. Was it because he didn't want to risk him getting hurt or tired? if so, then why keep him in the game?

2. With a 5-1 lead (non-save situation) why bring in your closer Osuna, who pitched the night before? Now he probably can't pitch next game against the hottest team in baseball, the Indians.

Gibby some times does some unothodox things, sometimes they work but he leaves himself open to second-guessing by the fans and many armchair mangers on TERB.

or the fact that he's currently one of the best pitchers in baseball and it would be just plain to stupid to take him out of the starting rotation???

So this should tell you two things:

1) Gibbons has zero confidence in his bullpen right now, and didn't want to pull Sanchez out of the game, but yes didn't want to risk him getting hurt. (especially after a close situation on his first at bat)

2)Gibbons has zero confidence in his bullpen right now, and didn't trust any of the other available relievers other than Osuna.

BTW, many mangers get second guessed by their fan base.

.
The bigger mystery is he brought in Osuna the night before in the 8th with a 4 run lead. So now Osuna pitches 2 consecutive nights on non save and is unavailable against the hottest team tonight.

We all heard apologist Wilner: we had a 3 run lead and Osuna is warmed up but we tacked on an extra run in top of 9th. He struggles thru the bottom throwing a ton of pitches. So maybe he is not avail Thurs or Fri. Bet the bullpen blows another one against the Indians.

Gibby manages the offence well but kills the bullpen.

If your closer is available then you warm him up in a save situation. If a run gets added on then he still pitches. You don't warm up a second pitcher just in case, that could affect the availability of two pitchers instead of one.

Why did he warm him up on Tues with 4 run lead? Lots of excuses, but the fact is, the Indians coming in with a 12 game winning streak, and we will not have our ONLY reliable guy in the pen prob for 2 games.

EDIT: this Cleveland 4 game series is not looking good. Their pitching staff is the best in the league and we are putting up Dickey tonight and Stroman Fri. Estrada Sat is good.

Since we're in the middle of 17 straight games no off days, I think they will push back Happ and bring up Hutch to spot start Sun. So in terms of pitching matchups, we are underdogs in 3 of 4 games.

No Osuna for at least 2 of those games, no JB (ya never know when he'll bust out with a 3-run shot).

Could be a long hot weekend. Stock up on the cold beer.

I think it makes sense. The previous night, not sure, but there could be a reason. I don't pretend to know what Gibby is thinking.
I think you're brilliant and clearly have an in depth knowledge of the game that could only come from participation at a very high leve, but you're not getting the respect you deserve from others. You should fill them in so they will understand.
