Somewhere
Travis Snider just got pulled off the field with no apparent injury.

Speculation is that he may have just been part of a trade.
Snider to Pirates for pitcher Brad Lincoln is the news right now...

Is that a good trade? Always was a Snider fan.

Thames is also traded to Seattle for a pitcher as well.

So are the Jays buyers or sellers or treaders of water?

Well, they need the pitching. But Snider was looking pretty good this stint. OTOH, the reliever they picked up has some very solid stats. Sounds like the BJ's are actually going to try and make a run for it this season for a change. God knows the franchise needs a pennant / WC race to make the fans enthusiastic again. With the projected return of Bautista, they have a solid outfield for this year, even though Snider was going to be arguably better than Davis in the long term.

I wonder if there is another shoe to drop. Jason Bay is not doing well in New York with the Mets. Could he be another AA buy low scenario? At this point we could likely have him for almost nothing - just pick up his salary. New location, new start, playing in Canada could turn him around. He clearly has the talent. Bay would actually sell tickets in Toronto. Stay tuned....

A bit of a surprise as far as I am concerned.

I had speculated they would trade either Snider or Thames, but not both. The BJ's must be feeling very confident about their outfield roster... and why not? It looks like Gose is going to stick around and learn to hit here rather than in Las Vegas.

And the new pitching additions seem to be made with an eye on next season/s as well as this one. Five new pitchers in the past couple of weeks, as well as great showing by Loup... it adds up to real competition for pitching jobs. And then, as the injured heal and return and the prospects in the minors develop... as they say, you can never have too much pitching.

But I am sorry to see Snider traded. I thought he was showing that he had learned something from his up-and-down experiences and was beginning to prove his well recognized talents. I expect that over the next 2 or 3 years we are going to hear a lot more about his successes.

I - just pick up his salary. .
Just pick up his salary??? Why on earth would you pick up Jason Bay right now??? He's slated to make 16 milliion next year and 17 million the year after. This is a guy that has been in a year and half slump. You would have to be as idiotic as the Angels were when they took the Vernon Wells contract of our hands.

TV Ratings, Ticket Sales and he is a great outfielder. He has not done well with the Mets but that is not unique to him. The guy can still play. Probably Mets would take some of his salary like Boston did in the Youk trade.

Jason Bay would have a difficult time cracking that line up. Bautista Rasmus and Gose with Davis as the the 4th outfielder, it leaves Bay as a DH. I don't see that Bay coming here. The Mets overpaid!

Jason Bay would not sell 5 extra tickets.

Roger Clemens, when with Toronto did not generate increased walkup traffic, and you expect a washed up corner outfielder from Trail B.C. to have the fans storming the ticket offices?

I hate to be the one to break this to you, just because he's Canadian doesn't mean tv ratings and ticket sales go up. He's playing so bad right now it wouldn't make a lick of difference to the blue jays bottom line. That's like saying Rob Ducey was generating money for the blue jays.

I wasn't as surprised as I was disappointed. I've liked Snider for a long time and was glad to see him doing well this time back. I thought he might be traded as you usually have to give up someone decent to get a decent player and the Jays did have a small glut of young outfielders.
Looking at the stats of the two pitchers, Dalabar(born 83) 2-1 4.17 era 0.93 whip46Kvs 11W, Lincoln(born1985) 4-2 2.73 era 1.10 whip 60K vs14W, it appears, on paper at least, the Jays did fine.

Is it true that Adam Lind is now on the DL?
It is true. 15 day DL, due to back tightness. It was rumoured that AA was going after Justin Morneau to replace him in the lineup. I'm not sure that makes sense, but in any case I didn't see any announcement by 4:00 PM.

I hate this trade, Lincoln isn't established yet and doesn't have near the ceiling that Snider has. Snider may end up being a bust but Lincoln looks to be no better than a middle reliever. From all I've read, he doesn't really project as a front-line starter or a shut-down closer. Seems he's just a hard-throwing arm in the 'pen.

I usually defend AA, but this one I don't understand at all.

Might just be an exercise in hole-plugging for this season. BJ's are just 3 or 4 games out of the playoffs at the end of July. When was the last time that happened? '93???

In a way, this is all very simple.

With 8 major league quality pitchers on the DL, the BJ's were short on pitching and long on position players.

The kids down on the farm still need time to develop. This means they now don't have to rush them and, in the meanwhile, they improve their chances for a post season this year.

Well... send in the clowns! And the fat lady is warming up.

The BJ's had to sweep the Mariners or at least win the series, not be swept by them.

They have 51 wins and need, I would say, 90 to have a prayer for a wild card.

They have 58 games left. Which means they would need to go 39 and 19 the rest of the way. With Joe Bats still unlikely to return until after this road trip, the only question remaining is what song the fat lady is going to sing.

I hope I am wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hasta la vista, baby!
