If I were the G.M. of the BJ's, right now I would be trying to pry Joe Mauer away from the Twins to play first base.

Right now he does not mean too much to the Twins because they are going nowhere and rebuilding.

I'd offer them Lind, either Snider or Thames and, if necessary, a pitcher with potential deep in the minors or cash.

Pry???

The dude is on pace for 5 HRs and makes 23 Mil./year until 2018. The only one that will need to be convinced is Mauer; to waive his no-trade to leave his home state.

Vlad at DH. Edwin at 1st.
I like that.

You would.

Vlad at DH, weakens DH position significantly.
E.E.E. at 1st, while it strengthens the offence from the position, it weakens the Blue Jays infield defence tremendously.
Lind saves Lawrie/Escobar an error a game or more, digging throws out of the dirt, picking off wayward throws.

Net effect of duhj1470's proposal, significantly weaker DH, improved O at 1st base, significantly weaker D at 1st.
Blue Jays are worse off than they are now.

I'm a bit at a loss as to Vlad's signing. I suppose it might come in handy should the Jays get bitten by the injury bug but as it stands now there doesn't appear to be a position for him. EE is a DH in the truest sense and that's about all that Vlad can do at this point. Oh well, at the very least I'm sure it'll help with ticket sales on the farm.

I think they are better off with Vlad than Ben Francisco. Lind can play outfield in a pinch.

You have some valid points regardless of your usual idiotic personal attacks.

I agree with EEE at 1st - defensive liability.

I disagree with being weaker at DH. Lind vs Vlad at DH? I'll take Vlad. Guerrero (IF he can make a comeback and be himself from 4-5 years ago) is a significant upgrade from Adam Lind. Lind has had his chance 10 times over. I think there would be some takers if AA tried to trade him for some relief help. This, of course, all hinges on Guerrero impressing and actually doing something in the minors and then continuing in Toronto.

As for Lind "saving" Escobar and Lawrie - well - anyone can be taught a skill and I think EEE would be fine at 1st.

its becoming very frustrating watching this team. They even have problems with the twins!..Hutchinson is not major league ready. Its time Anthopoulos step up and become a general manager. Make the trade with Philly and let them have Lind for a bag of balls,,,

Another 1-2-3 ninth inning by Casey. Bautista starting to look more potent.

Somewhere
Caught bits and pieces of the series. A few observations on this series.

Friday: Drabek didn't pitch a good game to start. The Jays were down one going into bottom 7th. Runner at 1st, Twins hit a mid depth fly to right. Thames catches it and was caught off guard when runner tagged from 1st to 2nd. Bad play. A couple of batter later, single to left, Thames's throw was way off line over the cutoff as well. Run scores, and the runner got to scoring position. Luckily the bullpen escaped without further damage. Jays came back with 1 run and lost by 1.

Today: Romero just didn't have his stuff today. Battled his command all game. When your ace walks like 4/5 batters during a game, it's hard to imagine you coming up on top.

You can't argue that the Jays is exciting to watch this year. You can never count them out and they will battle. They have also made some awesome plays so far this year but quite a few games they have made some boneheaded defensive plays that ended up costing them the game. This is the problem with young teams...part of the growing pain. Hopefully they can stay in the hunt for May/June and have things start coming together by July/August, giving them a chance at one of the wildcard spots at least.

I think you are bang on with your assessment. The biggest problem with this city is that they are getting fed up with continuous losing seasons from all the major sports franchises ie. Leafs, Raptors, FC, and even the Argos. So even though the Jays finished .500 last year and show glimpses of promise this year, nothing but success will be tolerated by the fickle Toronto fans.

it really bites being in the AL east. They could still have a winning record this year and finish 5th,,gotta beat the rivals, but its gonna be tough if the offense doesnt show up,

Jays, need to hit better, a lot better, not statistically so much, but drive runs in earlier in the game, pitchers are not bad really, but need to be more consistant when the team is struggling offensively. I like this team, but they have not hit in KEY spots, and closer, per se has cost them to date, now lets see what they do against the big boys...
