Bear Vrs Man debate on SM

I agree. If a bear shows up, I'm sure I can outrun Kathy Griffin.
In my youth I worked for the Lands & Forest north of Lake Superior. Typically bears are scared of humans and stay clear of them. When they have more interaction with people, they lose their fear. The number of morons that actually encouraged a bear to eat from their hand seemed endless. Of course one scratch on the human, the bear had to be put down.
While I do see both sides and can understand why it would be stupid to pick the bear because it’s a man eater and a wild animal…..
I would pick the bear because at least it would act on instinct and only attack me to kill me and finish me off. A man may violate me and keep me alive just so he can do it all over again, HOWEVER he could me a sane individual and all could go well.
But even If it was a women I would still pick the bear since I don’t trust people especially in situations like that. I would pick an island with only animals over an island with humans any day

But the chances that a man would actually violate you are low in the first place. Say there is a 50/50 chance a man may violate you or not violate you. But a bear would 100% kill you. Why would you choose the worse choice? Why not bet on the 50%?
Statistics say otherwise and in situations like that where I’m dependent on someone or where we’re dependent on one another I don’t trust anyone in that situation, man or women.
I say again at least a bear will attack on instinct and finish the job. You put a lot of people in that situation where someone has to depend on them and it could be a whole lot worse then what a bear will ever do

In reality if it were to occur in real life you'd act exactly the opposite. You'd cry out for help to the man when faced with a bear.
It is in human nature to immediately collaborate to solve the bear problem so you could go back home safe and post on TERB about how you would choose a bear over a man!

I agree with your entire post except that it's not anywhere near 50% odds that a man in the woods is a rapist.
The thought of raping a woman has never and will never enter the minds of the overwhelming majority of men in their entire lives. The default setting for most men is to provide assistance to women.

I think you are confusing finding the choice dumb, to being offended. It is also objectively true that the majority of men have not sexually assaulted or raped anyone. So the benefit of the doubt has to always, go to the man, until proven guilty or atleast until a pattern of accusation is established. Otherwise you are just arguing that every man by default is either a rapist or likely to be a rapist. Now that is bullshit that most men rightfully oppose. This does not mean women should not take precautions around men. But, there has to at the very least be a measure of cautious optimism. Not default fear and pessimism.
