Normally I don’t complain about food, especially if someone else is cooking it for me but really felt the need to share my experience with you so hopefully you don’t have the same bad luck as I did. I travel to the Falls and Niagara on-the-lake quite often. During my visit this time around, I had a craving for seafood. I’m mostly vegetarian with the exception of seafood and I decided I wanted to sample the menu at Watermark, a fallsview Hilton restaurant.
So the place is beautiful, no doubt about that. We were seated right away and were lucky enough to get a coveted window seat. The menu all looked SOOO good I had a hard time deciding on what I wanted. In the end, we settled for crab cake appetizers and a seafood platter for 2. At $18 for a plate of 2 tiny crab cakes, I was expecting a symphony in my mouth. They really were the worst I had ever tasted and full of bits of crunchy shell (mine are WAY better and I am no chef lol!).
No big deal, I was looking forward to the lobster tails, shrimp and mostly the scallops!!! The dish was a bit on the small side for the $150 we paid but the lobster was cooked to perfection. I ate that first and it was one of the best I had. I then cut into a huge scallop in anticipation of my favorite shellfish tasting like heaven. Well, not so much. Every single scallop was filled with grit. It was like they had been rolled in sand. I’d had better at Red Lobster – and that’s not saying much lol!! Okay, so then I move on to the shrimp. No taste at all.
Switch to the veggies. Asparagus is my favorite green stuff. I gently cut the tip off and placed it in my mouth – again, sand. None of them had been properly washed. I’m a bit odd in that if a texture that isn’t supposed to be there is there, it throws off my appetite. I was done with dinner. The manager was kind enough to take 50% off my bill and offered me a free dessert. I LOVE creme brulee so that was the choice. Again, I was pretty floored that they could mess up sweets. It came in a pie crust and was freezing cold in the middle!
If you’re a seafood junkie like me or like your veggies without sand, don’t waste your money in the Falls at Watermark Hilton!!! HOF had suggested I try somewhere else and I should have listened to him!!! Next time HOF I’ll pay attention!!! Our cab driver suggested Remington’s for my next trip, have any of you tried it? It’s on Victoria St.
Hope everyone had a terrific weekend, besides the bad food at Watermark, I had a blast and great food at other places too
Hugs, Tristan
