Could he, possibly, beat, nah, no-way, never, dare to say it...beat Darryl Sittler's record?
No chance in the current day.

Wayne Gretzky had 4 200 point seasons. He never got more than 8. Nobody else has had more than 8 in much higher scoring eras. Daryl Sitttler just had a special night, in a higher scoring era, where everything went right.

Let's not get carried away here, after all he's only in the 26th day of his 19th year. He's not going to play like Rocket Richard every game.

That second goal was nasty, it had a 1% chance of succeeding. With the possible exception of McDavid and Ovechkin, Karlsson would have recovered the puck.

Never seen anyone in a Leafs uniform do that - let's see it again!

That was a public shaming of two of the worst defensive players in the NHL in Mike Hoffman and Erik Karlsson. Not meant to be a slag at Matthews who is great, but this was the same old shit for the Sens.

I saw Sittler at the bank 2 days ago. No way he could have scored 10 points in one game. It's a myth. The videos were outsourced and faked.

There is always a chance, and what Gretzky, or Crosby have not done, Matthews could given the right night. Strange things happen in Hockey, get one a flu bug to take out both goalies, and a farm team goalie could be lit up like a candle.
Highly unlikely for any one specific player. But if you say any player it increases the odds a bit. But the NHL will need to evolve offensively for their to be a chance even in perfect circumstances (in my view)

Ema Matthews flies in the face of everything Donald Trump and Joe Arpaio have been saying about Mexicans.

Hockey is an expensive game, she took a second job to help pay $20,000.00 US a year it cost to keep him in the game. Because he fell 15 days short of the 2015 entry draft, Auston went to Switzerland instead, Ema went with him to cook his meals. i suspect she'll stay in town to cook for him until AM tells her he can get by on his own. I suspect that conversation will come up soon - Toronto isn't sleepy Zurich.

So as far as I'm concerned Trump and Arpaio can go suck a habanero.

Everything went right indeed. Including, facing a rookie goalie. Dave Reece was in goal and faced 40 shots that night.
Reece never played another NHL game, finishing the season with the AHL’s Rochester Americans.
Poor guy. And Sittler's still telling that old joke at his expense, you all know it. Reece was so depressed after the game, he stepped in front of a bus. But it went between his legs. Imagine having to listen to that all your life.

Oops, autocorrect must been mad at Sittler too, changed his name to Sitter on my original post. Damn smartphones can really f you if you're not vigilant. I have a buddy in the habit of some very crude texting who got tripped up typing the word cant in a business text. Not the spelling autocorrect chose to pass on to his clients.

I know nothing about hockey so sorry if this is a stupid question, but how good do you guys think Auston will become??

Are we talking another Gretzky, or another Crosby type player??

Saturday's game against Boston should be a good one, Marchand has already one upped Mathews with a 5 point night tonight against Columbus and the game isn't over yet.

Regardless of the upcoming answers, nobody really knows. He looks very good, good size, good hands, good skating, and good instincts. Tons of upside but he has only played one game.

But nobody knows how good he will be.

For a 1st overall pick I'd say somewhere between Lemieux and Daigle.

I think Don Cherry had a role in that too. Boston had their backup who was a call up from the minors. Instead of taking out the goalie, Cherry was saving his number 1 goalie for the next game that was the next night.

McDavid and Matthews are the next generation of NHL superstars. Time will tell though as to how great they will be.

Probably not the best time to ask after a 4 goal game. Opinions could understandably be skewed after this game. That being said last night's game merits all the appreciation he is getting today.

Shack said it best. We will only know how good he is in retrospect with the careers of the great players. We can speculate on this as time passes and if he's still around.

He's still 16 goals behind Daigle's first NHL season.
