Good point. There are plenty of officers who are great at what they do. Then there are the handful that make it bad for police as a whole. Just like this moron that we are posting about.

im glad that racist kkk pig resigned, this guy was a disgrace to the human
race, hopefully the media wakes up and realizes that racism hasn't ended and stuff like this still happens every day, the media wants to create this make believe utopian society that all races love each other.

Wow you make some of Tboy's comments seem... almost rational? :p

Even I would say this is harsh.

I think he was a major asshole but I also think he was unlucky that the death occurred so quickly.
If Moats mother-in-law passed away a bit later (15 minutes?) and he did get to say goodbye, I think the outrage would have been much less severe.

If this was his first blemish, I think Powell deserved some significant discipline and enlightenment but another chance.
Good for him for doing the honourable thing though.

He seems genuinely sorry for his behaviour, and that's good. He fucked up big time, and knows it. Better than fucking up big time and denying it. Good on him, but he deserves to not have his job anymore, so he did the right thing by resigning.

I disagree. He screwed up yes, but by recognizing that, and taking responsibilities for that, he should be given a second chance. He has only been a cop 3 years. He still has learning to do.

He should be out of a career because of this one mistake.

What on earth evidence do you have that he was racist or a member of the KKK or are those terms to be thrown around like "Nazi."

His one mistake that we know about. There are probably others as well. It does not take three years in the force to have an understanding. He was a complete asshole.

You honestly believe this was his decision, arrived at after some soul searching? The media/public reaction got a little hot and the bigwigs pressured him into resigning (known as throwing him under the bus, or making him a scapegoat to us old fogeys.) Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out some private security or similar job was lined up as part of the "resignation package."

I disagree. He made an asshole move. If he was a complete asshole, then he would not being saying sorry, trying to do what everyone "thinks" is the right thing.

He did not have to lose his entire career. Especially when another cop beat a 15 yr. old and didn't do anything close to taking responiblity for it.

As for learning to have understanding. It doesn't take years to learn that you are, but in that field it takes time to learn when to apply it and when not to. I would be more disappointment if he was cop 10 years over 3.

You are right though, it was an assumption about the one mistake.

Let him/her who is without sin cast the first stone.

I agree it was a thoughtless action. But apparently there are a great many of us TERBites who have never, ever, done anything that in hindsight could be (or others could have) described as incredibly stupid, gosh, I must be a true minority given that certainly I have!

Perhaps Red is referring to the cop in question and not all cops.
Perhaps he is, but that's not what he wrote.

He wrote cop = asshole

If he meant this cop, he should have said .... this cop = asshole

Well, since you're getting into semantics, I would think if he meant ALL cops, he would have written:

COPS = ASSHOLES :p

Obviously you are not familiar with my posts in this thread.
I have little sympathy for him.

He apologized and Moats accepted.
Was he sincere?
Who knows?
You?

Was this his first strike?
Does he regret what he did and can he learn from this fuck up?
Again, who knows?
You again?
