You are wrong, I downloaded and viewed the file, while no credit card NUMBERS are in the file every credit card TRANSACTION is listed with the real name, real address, email, amount and date, of the purchaser. That information is linked to your AM profile so people can see what you posted on AM.Actually most of AM are fakes (they already settled a lawsuit about creating fake accounts to get men to join)
Database is much smaller than you think
Financial gain? lol how?
Unless you were a total retard and wrote an email like "Hi my name is Jon Smith I live at 23 Any St & my cell is 416-555-5555"
All the leak shows is pictures (which any member can view already) email addresses (most are fakes) and partial credit card numbers (AM already confirmed no credit card info was hacked)
It amazes me how big the media is making this
Way bigger hacks have happened (Target & Sony spring to mind)
Yet the grab for this hack is oh let's see who is cheating!
It is a bit tough. I used a tool called grep to search all the files for my name, email, postal code, etc, and extract any interesting lines into a smaller file and then I used a text editor to view the smaller file. The files are pretty huge so you generally can't just open them in most editors, but this approach resulted in a small enough file that I could read it in notepad.Fuji, which program did you use to open the files?? I cant open these things for the life of me because I totally suck at computers
There is a torrent on the Pirate Bay torrent site. You will know you found the right torrent when you see it has many thousands of people downloading lol.Hey Fuji,
Can you direct me as to where I can download the file? I've been trying for quite some time now and nothing seems to be working. The files that I have found have turned out to be SPAM. Thanks a billion Fuji.
VW.
Especially since it's 90% dudes to begin with. lolI can't see how AM is gonna survive all this without going belly up. I mean who would want to sign up with them now?? You'd have to go through all the hassle of prepaid CC, fake name, fake email acct, fake phone.....fake everything.
Too much hassle
My question dealt with downloading the database, not sharing it. Someone else said that there would be sites wherein you can view the info as opposed to downloading it. So my question also dealt with the legality of merely viewing as opposed to illegally downloading the personal data. It was answered IIRC. Thanks TeeJay for your added input. On a torrent you are also uploading (sharing the data) with others
Unless you disabled the upload part
Yup!
The webserver admin decides what information to store in a cookie on your pc.. can be everything from IP, time of day, last website visited etc... It's quite invasive which is why companies such as Google and Facebook make so much money on personalized ads and why modern browsers have private browsing modes. Lots of info can me stored and retrieved regardless of where you're browsing from (coffee shop etc...)
The best thing to do if you're going to be doing stuff you don't want traced is to use a dummy email address for those types of things (like a hobby phone) and either use a VPN or your browser's private function.
Oh and whomever asked about a single IP for a city block... Yes it's technically possible but not likely due to NAT limits with ports and what not. Every ISP can do things differently though. Look into proxies for more detail
WRONG
Bank knows because they leave tracking info on that computer
Nothing to do with IP address dumbass
Take your laptop from home log into bank
Now head over to local Starbucks and log in again
IP is totally different and bank still knows it is you
Might want to clear your cache and delete cookies and voila bank does not know you anymore
It is funny most of the computer illiterates freaking out over this
The Ashley Madison hack is pretty worthless; credit card numbers are mainly partials, old info (eg expired cards/emails), and some are questioning authenticity of the data (lots of garbage/fake info in the dump)
Even if they had a "chat log" it does not match any personal info (eg you have TeeJay's sexual fantasies.... so what? How do you match it up to who I really am?)
No, even with a dynamic IP, your IP stays the same till the lease on that dynamic IP is over. With a static IP, it is ALWAYS uniquely assigned to you. That was me too. So at any given time, an I.P. address that is associated with my computer is unique?
No
Unless you pay extra (for a static IP) your IP is random (reboot your modem and get a new one anytime)
Now for legal reasons, your ISP keeps a record of which goes to who (eg they have 5000 IPs assigned on a given date to each subscriber in that city)
So police can ask who was address XXX on Jul 1st and ISP can pull their records
In GENERAL a cable modem (Rogers/Cogeco) is less random than a dsl modem (Bell/Telus) but still we are talking percentage points here
Except if my spouse knows my IP address because we use the same gateway to the Internet. No, even with a dynamic IP, your IP stays the same till the lease on that dynamic IP is over. With a static IP, it is ALWAYS uniquely assigned to you.
Don't sweat the IP - nobody except your ISP can tell who is using one of their IPs at any given time. Even LE has to get a subpoena to get to the end customer. It's like trying to use a mortgage ID# to try and figure out what is the street address of the house. Only the bank can do that.
How much of a geek is your wife?Except if my spouse knows my IP address because we use the same gateway to the Internet.
Here is the link for the torrent. There is a torrent on the Pirate Bay torrent site. You will know you found the right torrent when you see it has many thousands of people downloading lol.
It is unchanged till the IP lease is over. And that in itself is variable. Think days or months. You can reboot your modem all you want and it won't change. So even if you have a dynamic I.P. address, whatever is assigned to you that day or in your browsing session, is still unique to you for THAT moment in time or session, no?
Also, what if I don't refresh or switch off my modem? Will my 'dynamic' I.P. address be unchanged until I re-boot?
Hi Serpent (How's it hangin'? Buddy we gotta hit the bars again one night),No, even with a dynamic IP, your IP stays the same till the lease on that dynamic IP is over. With a static IP, it is ALWAYS uniquely assigned to you.

As I was saying, it depends on the IP lease/renew period established by the ISP netadmin. The addresses are usually assigned with DHCP. Since the modems are usually powered on for extended periods of time, the address leases are usually set to long periods and simply renewed. If a modem is turned off and powered up again before the next expiration of the address lease, it will most likely receive the same IP address.
