Another oddly unsatisfying show... I've said this before, I just don't get country music.
Carrie - Very nice on the Dixie Chicks song, no surprise. I thought she sang the second song fine, and thought the judges were a little harsh. I agree, however, that she didn't really sell it. Like Simon, I think it helps to have a little soul to sing that song, and I'm afraid Carrie, for all her charms, is about as white as they get.
Bo - The Travis Tritt song was a snoozer, but I thought he was very good on the O'Jay's song. A very interesting choice.
Vonzell - Yikes! On the first song, she made me really appreciate LeAnn Rimes. I thought she was off pitch nearly the entire song. On the second song, she made me really appreciate Thelma Houston. She sang it better, but it seemed really obvious her voice just wasn't strong enough to pull it off. Vonzell has never had the strongest voice, but she has always been able to sell her performances. Not this week.
Anthony - The sissy seems to be hitting his stride, and I thought he sang both songs pretty well. But what's the deal with he and Carrie singing the exact same song? Anthony's pretty white too, but he was able to do a decent boy band version of "If You Don't Know Me By Now".
Based on performance, I think Vonzell will go tomorrow, but frankly, I wouldn't be shocked if Anthony or Carrie went, either. I think it is shaping up to be a Bo/Carrie final, and I would be fine with either one winning. I think Carrie needs it more than Bo, though. Bo has a band and a music career already. Carrie has a farm.
Short anecdote - I was playing blackjack at the local casino, and the dealer and I started to talk about AI. I mentioned I had liked Jessica, and the dealer made a face and said she didn't like Jessica. "I thought she was slutty", she said. Aha! I was right!
