Damn some serious vocals on this one. Love the horn usage as well. Hadn't heard this one before, thanks.
just a little trivia....on trumpet Ben Cauley...a Stax session musician and a member of the Bar Kays...Ben was the sole survivor of the plane crash that killed Otis Redding and his entourage

Schoolly D is my second favorite rapper of all time after Guru. This is from his 1988 LP 'Smoke Some Kill'

Of course it samples this classic from Dyke & the Blazers

Alex was the truth. Track #1 on his self titled debut album, released in 1985. In the video producers Jimmy Jam on the keyboards and Terry Lewis on the upright bass. Cooler than a polar bear's toenails.

Maze feat. Frankie Beverly "Joy and Pain". This was released in 1980. My favorite song from them.

I was put onto that song thanks to Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock's hip hop interpolation in 1988

Classic 90's hip hop tune. Definitely got the club vibe which was so prevalent in the 2nd half of the decade
"Party Ain't a Party" Queen Pen feat. Mr. Cheeks, Markell Riley & Nutta Butta. Produced by Teddy Riley

The sample was Earth Wind & Fire's "On Your Face". Oh my.

This was the first Teena Marie song I can remember hearing. Little did I know at the time just how good her discography was and would be.
"Lovergirl"

As it turned out my very favorite song from her was near the end of her life. This was a duet with Faith Evans I believe released in 2009.
"Can't Last a Day"
