Stricter jail terms may make you feel better, but it does nothing to prevent violence.
While I agree in part it's not entirely true. If a person is locked up he obviously can't commit a crime so it does prevent crime . If you look at who commits the crime in Canada I think you will find that a small percentage commit the majority of crime they are repeat offenders so longer jail times will mean they won't be out on the street re offending. The U.s IS MORE VIOLENT THAN cANADA period but I am not sure it has anything to do with the fact that they incarcerate more people. The U.S. has more slums and ghetoos than Canada but we are getting there.
