A few things didn’t make sense. First of all how did the police know he targeted muslims ? A Muslim can have any colour of skin and not only Muslim’s wear turbans and hijabs. I thought initially the kid targeted them because of the colour of their skin but PC culture decided that it was more prudent to base it on their faith. What’s more troubling is the speed to which the police released their assumptions. Who made this call and what evidence do they have to support their stance? This is probably the most damning allegation that you can make against someone so why were the police so quick to release the motive before it was thoroughly investigated ? From what I have heard nobody that knew the guy said they have ever seen or heard anything hateful coming from him against muslims or any other race or group. If he was posting hate speech online, why haven’t the police released it? I think this may be gross incompetence by the police which lead to a national embarrassment that will not be forgotten for a very long time. News today is by the minute so false judgements are far more likely and racism is perhaps the most important issue in North America today. Police are trained to asses a situation and draw conclusions very quickly to determine who the bad guy is. They may have made a serious error of self confirming bias

The guy was wearing a helmet and bullet proof vest and told a taxi driver to call the cops on him. Sounds like he was admitting that he killed that family on the spot.
Apparently he had no social media presence and no reported mental health issues.

Given the Islamaphobic posts on this board and in this country, and after the 2017 Quebec shooting, why does this 'not make sense' to you?

What obligation are police under to tell you anything?

Are you saying this was some random accident? Yes or no?
The police may not be obliged, without direction from their police board, to disclose anything about this investigation or arrest, but in this case they chose to speak to the press about some of their conclusions. And that choice has created a furor stretching across the country. Since we can't just trust the police to get these things right, it would be responsible for them to assure the public that there is a reliable basis for their conclusions.

As to your question, you are kind of missing the point. No one, including you or I, should be reaching any conclusions about what happened before evidence (not conclusions) about it has been shared with the public.

Police give partial evidence ALL the time. It is like standard practice. The public doesn’t need to know everything and sometimes there are good reasons to hold info back from the public.

We can make a conclusion based on the current facts presented. You are choosing to not believe them and by doing that are actually making a conclusion yourself.

But whatever, keep pretending you are not. Remember. YOU don’t trust police, that doesn’t mean anything in the big picture

How many perpetrators of acts of terrorism give themselves up willingly ?
Why do you refuse to accept the police reports?

Hassan Savehilaghi, the president of Yellow Taxi London, told VICE World News one of his drivers interacted with Veltman shortly after the hit and run. The taxi driver was parked in a mall parking lot and was having a smoke when a black pickup truck pulled up right behind his cab even though the parking lot was empty. Savehilaghi, who first spoke to the London Free Press about this, said he is speaking for his employee, whom is reportedly Muslim, because the employee was traumatized by Sunday’s events.

Savehilaghi said Veltman then began aggressively addressing the cab driver, telling him “to call the police because he killed somebody.” Savehilaghi said the driver noticed the front of the pickup truck was “severely damaged with a lot of blood.” According to Savehilaghi, the cab driver called the police, but as he was talking to the operator he noticed a police car driving by and ran to flag it down. The cop pulled into the parking lot, and soon, more cruisers arrived and began the arrest.

The suspect “was laughing the entire time that he was taken out of his vehicle,” said Savehilaghi. “He was chanting some sort of slogans, but (the cab driver) couldn’t exactly hear what. He had a military helmet on his head and an armoured vest police took from him.” “While he was laughing, he turned his head towards my colleague and told him to record this,” said Savehilaghi. Savehilaghi said his driver said that Veltman’s T-shirt may have had a swastika on it, which he has also told several other media outlets.

I saw a video where the cab driver was saying the db told him to record him being arrested with his phone. He also told the cabi to call the cops bc he just killed some people.
When the cops arrived to arrest him he was laughing.

Strathroy cops said there were incidents between 2016 and 2020 appx 16 but no criminal record.

The entire crash site where four members of the same Muslim family were killed was captured on this surveillance camera at Peavy Mart across from the intersection.

So gut-wrenching. Makes me sick.

This nurse arrived on the scene before the paramedics and police did.Her account of the scene is so nightmarish.

The way I see it there are 3 possibilities :

A - premeditated murder where this guy decided to take out some muslims. He dressed in tactical gear in an intoxicated shootout with police but after he ran the people over caved in a gave himself up.

B- the guy had a mental meltdown while driving and happened to have his air soft gear on. He drive erratically and hit some pedestrians

C- the vehicle had a mechanical issue which cause him to veer off the road. He panicked and drove to a parking lot and asked a cab driver to report it

Whichever one is true, the police were very reckless to conclude a motive that quick. A is what the police reported as the motive. The fact that he was not armed and voluntarily gave himself up makes this seem unlikely. I would consider B to be the most likely of the three

If the investigation confirms no mechanical problems with the vehicle...straight up murder...and throw him for life...

True. That's why it would be better if they had a practice of NEVER sharing information about their investigations (subject to investigations into their own conduct). However, when they choose to provide information, they should be prepared to provide some basis for their conclusions.

We can make a conclusion based on the current facts presented. You are choosing to not believe them and by doing that are actually making a conclusion yourself.
Let's put that to the test. What do you actually KNOW about this event? I would say that you know people were killed by a truck that struck them on the sidewalk near an intersection. You know that the driver was arrested a few blocks away from the scene without incident. You know the victims were identifiable as racial minorities. You don't KNOW anything else. Without more, you don't know enough to conclude whether this act was motivated by racial bigotry, or whether it represents an act of terrorism.

But whatever, keep pretending you are not. Remember. YOU don’t trust police, that doesn’t mean anything in the big picture
I trust the police to TRY to do their jobs correctly, at least in most circumstances. I don't trust the police to always get it right, and the more sophisticated the analysis required, the less I trust them. When political pressure is brought to bear, I don't trust their judgements at all. To be a policeman, you have to believe in authority, and that includes the authority of the politicians you answer to.

It really was a disgusting and horrible act.
I'm also disgusted by the multiple posters on this board who keep trying demonize, justify or just deny that this kind of racism exists and can result in this kind of act.

The police don't make such comments without very strong evidence.
I believe it is exactly what it appears to be ... a racist driven homicide.

I am glad that Dutch and the other right wingers have come clean and stated that we cannot trust the Police. Then we don't have to read their posts next time a policeman shoots an unarmed black kid.

Do you ever actually read what anyone else posts, or are you just trolling 100% of the time?

We do know that the perp told a cab driver to call the cops on himself, spouted 'slogans', may have had swastikas on his shirt and told the cab driver to videotape him.

We also know that this won't stop you from trying to claim it wasn't a racist act of terrorism.

Nice try Frank no facts, so what slogans did he shout? no one has said or knows

he “may” Have had swastikas, Not he did,

he was just involved in an incident and he’s asking somebody to call the cops that is pretty normal
Nobody they’ve spoken to has said he ever said anything racist whatsoever it’s funny how you automatically jump to the conclusion he is with no evidence.
