The Shanaplan has struck out. I wonder how much it would take for Lou to return.
Who the heck is James Tanner? Is he a paid publicist by the Leafs? In the 3 years Tavares has been with the Leafs, they have been bounced twice in Round 1 and missed the playoffs once.

If you follow gcostanza's posts, he clearly hasn't mastered grade 5 math fundamentals, he has very poor comprehension of the articles he regurgitates and has trouble interpreting the main points, and his use of laughing symbols where they don't apply is reflective of his 10 or 11 year old maturity level.
He is a strange one, as are his two BFF's.

For example, he has mentioned Steve Shutt (often joined by one or both of his BFF's) in at least 12 random posts.

Another example, he (along with one or both his BFF's) still doesn't understand the difference between a repetitive stress injury and a contact/collision injury.

He also doesn't understand the merits of load management.

Oh, and he goes apeshit when he finds a typo and/or a misspelling.

IMO I think Leaf management do want a winner but they think the solution is to just throw money around and what do they have to show for it?.

The Leafs paid a king's random to sign Mike Babcock only to fire him later.

The Leafs paid a king's random to sign John Tavares.

The Leafs overpaid to sign RFA Nylander.

The Leafs paid a king's ransom to sign RFA Matthews.

The Leafs way overpaid to sign RFA Marner in September 2019.

5 days after the Marner signing, I started a "Will The Leafs Make The Playoffs" thread and the "noisy trio" went apeshit. No, the Leafs did not make the playoffs that year.

Wow...they should call some of you “Leaf Bailers”

Check out how many Stanley Cups and disappointments Wayne Gretzky had his first four years...and Mario Lemieux...and Denis Potvin...and Connor McDavid...and Carey Price...and Alexander Ovechkin...and Joe Salic...and Eric Lindros...and Bobby Orr.

Good thing those teams had more patience...

Ray Borque (40 years old), Steve Yzerman (31 years old) and Brett Hull (34 years old) won their first cups. I can only think of Kane and Crosby winning cups in their 1st four years. So I think the Leafs brain trust is keeping the core together for now.

I know that is meaningless in terms of games, but does anyone know how Tavares is recovering from the concussion?

So, who do the Leafs protect in the expansion draft, and more importantly, who do they lose? Is Dermott the top most likely candidate?

Dermott gets a lot of flack, but I like him though, he's got a lot of grit and mobility in the tight areas, he may end up a victim of the numbers game.

If Dermott is the loss it’s an acceptable outcome give. how some others may be hit. Of course he is not a negative asset either and has value to the Leafs but as the expansion hit I think you accept it.

I am not a doctor. But I think since he was back on the ice so quickly after his bad concussion probably indicate that he may be avoiding a long layoff on this one.

B ut concussions are quirky ... and unfortunately accumulative. So the issue could be next time when he gets hit much less severely.

This Tanner guy is some piece of work. Browsed through his articles for about an hour and laughed my ass off.

Is there still reason to be optimistic about the Leafs future. Absolutely. The Leafs do have some critical thought to do however this summer. as they have talent and fair concerns. But he is so close minded and in denial. If you don’t like what he thinks you are immature or a hater. He claims you can’t call him a homer or wrong because he hated Lou. I don’t mind the use of analytics.. think they are of good vAlue.. but you can’t have your head up your ass either while being locked into them. Basically he denies that third or fourth liners have any value and are simply interchangeable.

My favourites were before this season he claimed others NHL fans and media were haters because they would not acknowledge the Leafs were going to be a dynasty over the next 5 years. He claimed nobody had close to the young core of the Leafs under 26 at the time. loL. The Avs have McKinnon, rantanen, makar and a great prospect pool but not even close.

So much other stuff. I will just take a random one I saw. He called the Kasperi Kapenen trade as potentially one of the biggest heists in NHL history. Perhaps they won the deal. But his ass kissing and histrionics for all things Dubas is insane.

Don’t get me wrong. The Leafs are not done by any means. But they have to strongly consider change this year — you are not immature to suggest that. This fool just keeps doubling down on everything.

I love this team, I like many of you have experience heartache over and over and over again. What I do know is this - analytics play a great role during the regular season. That's it - when the playoffs begin - there is no analytics for heart and grit and size and speed and bodies and everything else that is playoff hockey. Goaltending - the puck stops here - all the great goalies have kicked in in high gear during the playoffs, people hit during the playoffs. Finesse is not playoff hockey - players that show up for playoff hockey are a different breed. We do not have any.

An excellent post by Sonic.

Also, bear in mind that you are playing against one of the top 16 teams in round 1. The bottom dwellers are gone.

Then you are playing against one of the top 8 teams in round 2. Competition getting tougher.

Then you are playing against one of the top 4 teams in round 3. Competition getting really tough now.

Then it is down to the Finals. It's only you and them now.

I would add "mental toughness" to Sonic's post. Don't throw the puck into the stands when you hear "footsteps". Don't panic (piss in your pants) in elimination games and/or in OT.

No team has come remotely close of winning the Cup with two players making double digit money on their contracts. Look at the Oilers and the Black Hawks. So why would Zack Hyman take a hometown discount when his buddies went the bumfuck route?

Zach Hyman is gone.

I'd be willing to bet that he is a Leaf next year.
