people are forgetting how good Simao is. He'll fill in the slot no problem. Its all tactics and i'll give the edge to Scolari who actually knows how to win on a consistant basis unlike Eriksson who should just retire from managing
I agree with what you said about Solari, but you don't replace a player of Deco's caliber so easy.

Deco, possibly Ronaldo and maybe Figo, thats the problem with the Portuguese they dont have depth outside of their starting 11, and you really think you can put up much of a fight against the likes of Gerrard, Rooney, Beckham, Cole and Lampard!!!

I hope finally we can stop hearing about this freaking "golden generation" of Portuguese football, I am so sick and tired of hearing about this bunch of perenial under achievers, come on England put them to rest

I'm not a fan of English football as you know, but as a football fan, I was happy for David Beckham today...

Personally, I think he's overrated... but all the critics were silenced (for now at least) with one swift kick of the boot.

Brilliant.

Bwahahahahahahahahahaaaa!

Thanks, I needed that. Why the hell not? When the likes of Ecuador and Paraguay can come so close, I'd fancy the chances of our recently humiliated U-21s to send England home, let alone the B side of our senior side. England will have a game on their hands, don't you worry.

E is correct. If we lose Figo to a suspension he most clearly deserves, we're fucked. He's the only one we have that can pretend to step into Deco's shoes. Deco orchestrates our game, sets the tempo, releases our wingers, recovers balls...he's irreplaceable. He plays a more creative role in our NT then he does with Barcelona...where he's even more valuable.

England vs Portugal's B side hmmmm should be a real close one :D

England goes on to the semis and possible meeting with those dastardly Brazilians that beat them four years ago on a Seaman error should be enticing

Should be a repeat of 2002 - Brasil vs. England. In football you never know, if the English get lucky they could find themselves against the Germans in the final. And we all know Englands record vs. Germany. A repeat of 1966?

Start the bus up for Portugal fans to jump on Brazil's bandwagon. Like usual.
Lots of Brazilians were out in the streets of Toronto today celebrating Portugal's win. It's unfortunate other communities don't have the bond of friendship that exists between the Portuguese and Brazilian communities, but you should try to toned down the envy. It's unbecoming.

That is true, but i'm saying Simao is still a dangerous replacement and should not be overlooked at, he's been a target of Liverpool for the past 2 seasons and now is a great time to really prove his worth

Wasnt it Portugal that England bounced in the semis of 1966 to get to the final? Hope England does it again.

its not a matter of who likes who. Van Basten made a tactical error. He has not beef against Ruud and placed him on the bench because he did not like Ruud's current form.
Ruud is a finisher. Who the hell is Kuyt? a Nobody is the answer. Brazil kept their faith in Doughboy and he scored a deuce against japan. Class is permanent. Form is temporary.

Ruud should have played. That one on one with the Ricardo would have been won by Ruud with his eyes closed and his hands tied behind his back! Kuyt however, wasnt up to it and kicked the ball right into Ricardo. Moron

He he, remember the ex-NHLer Stewart Gavin, the plucky guy who'd win every single race to the puck only to have it skip of his stick or get lost between his legs. I kept thinkng of Gavin whil watching Kuyt.

How do we know Van Nostlerooy would have made it that far in game like this without getting red-carded himself? I wouldn't trust such a suck to start the game, but with 20 or 15 minutes left, I thought they had no choice but to bring him in.

Trouble is the whole dutch team is immature and lacks focus. Good thing they're out of there.

Argentina vs. Germany SUCKS. These are certainly two of the four best teams so far and I't a pitty one of them will go out.

I too am surprised not see more playing time for Tevez. I watched him in Argentina's South American Cup run and he was just causing havoc on opponets defenses despite looking too fat to be in competiton.

Brazil vs. Gahna also sucks. I think Gahna could have beaten a number of other teams in the round of 16. Damn those Czechs, not only did they mess it up for themselves, but they let Italy have the top spot in the group.

I hope Ghana can get the ball enough to test the Brazilian defense. And I hope they play fearless game instead of freezing and trying to keep the score down, I don't think that will work against Brazil anayway.

what a complete bullshit penalty for Italy

Grosso fell over the defender!!

That's gut-wrenching for Australia to concede in the dying seconds

WOW, that just upset my stomach. These Italian players are the most disgusting I have seen in a long time. And now they have a clear path to the semis. Total rubbish

This will go down as the World Cup decided by the refs.

Clearly the Aussie was on the ground and the Italian player trips over him, dive.

3 mins of added time were issued yet Italy score the penalty in the 95th minute. LOL

So it took 2 mins to take that penalty? :)

Italy will make the semis. Neitherthe Swiss not the Ukranians are any match for them

Blame the aussie defender for making a foul in the penalty zone. The Italiens did not deserve to win this game, and it bodes really bad for the team. The germans will crush them, and even the english may have a chance against them.
