AFAIK, these people are not "school resource officers'. The current fantasy crap-oola is that each school will have its own SWAT-SEAL dude in body armour with an M-4 ready to be the "good guy with a gun". If they're also supposed to be guidance counsellors, that's news to me.I still stand by my opinion that people's expectation of what a School Resource Officer should be able to do is unreasonable.
I used to be in the military. I know first hand that a infantryman trained to kill is generally not suitable to do social work, which is what School Resource officers do. You put a guy with tactical capabilities in that role who has had to pass courses that have a failure rate and you have to be tough to do, the parents will have him kicked out because they don't want to hear their kid is getting guidance he or she is a pussy and should suck it up instead of coming to him with stupid problems.
Yes I do have my opinion on the hour delay. Uvalde is only 15,000 people. They likely don''t have a SWAT team.
U.S. Border Patrol SWAT officers were called in. An hour to contact someone who has a team, assembling them and travelling to the location doesn't sound unrealistic.
I'll check re the SWAT team. The butt-scuttle on the Net is that Uvalde had its own team, but online bullshit is a cheap and plentiful commodity.
The butt-scuttle is that whoever LE was, they waited outside for an hour. If I'm a beat cop with a sidearm, I'm probably neither paid nor trained to storm a school. OTOH, kids are dying and a little "above and beyond" may have saved some young lives.
