It's not fan fiction.

Why don't you go talk to your local school liaison police officer and find out. You know, in person. You're not going to find a 30 year old former combat veteran who is on the SWAT team, but really likes working with kids. You're going to find a middle aged mother of 2 who can't handle shiftwork and needs a day job.

What's fan fiction is people's belief that these police officers who work with the schools have extensive training and practice regularly for active shooter scenarios and have the correct tactical mindset.
As stated many times. A good guy with a gun will always stop a bad guy with a gun.

A mass shooter has gone on a rampage -again. This time it's another elementary school. The U.S. can stop it but it chooses not to because of what guns mean to some people in this country.

Are you saying that 'hardening' every school in the country wouldn't be extremely expensive?
Let's see. How long did it take the Congress to approve all them billions for Ukraine? Literally trillions blown on the ME wars. In just last 1.5 years trillions to explode the inflation. You telling me that money can't be found to have a guy at the door?

Really? We shouldn't try to minimize the impacts of a problem because the solution is a challenge?
You can try all you want, but it's a waste of money putting a band aid on severe hemorrhage. What's needed is a cultural shift. That will take generations.

That's what the NRA wants you to believe, so for years they've lobbied to stop counting guns and gun crimes in states.
But CNN has the numbers.

The answer is clear- states with more guns have more gun deaths.

States with the most gun violence share one trait

The top states by gun death rates are:
  • Mississippi -- 28.6.
  • Louisiana -- 26.3.
  • Wyoming -- 25.9.
  • Missouri -- 23.9.
  • Alabama -- 23.6.
  • Alaska -- 23.5.
All of those states with the highest gun death rates are among the ones with the highest gun ownership rates.
  • Mississippi -- 50% of adults live in a household with a gun.
  • Louisiana -- 48%.
  • Wyoming -- 59%.
  • Missouri -- 48%.
  • Alabama -- 50%.
  • Alaska -- 59%.
How you are framing your response is misleading.

The NRA narrative that you are claiming, is not related to the CNN report, which if someone fully reads, acknowledges that most gun deaths are suicides. Suicide is not a crime.

My personal stance is that offences should be broken down by weapon type, be it blunt object, edged weapon, firearm or physical force.

The CNN report discusses how hard it is to get stats on weapon ownership and gun crimes. If you read the article you'd have seen that.
If you want more info on the NRA programs:

The fact remains: The states with more guns have way more deaths by guns. More guns means more gun deaths.
The answer is easy, but you have to get the right wing, which is financed by the gun lobby, to agree.

This is an empirical question so let's look up the stats (will do later). 50 years ago is a turning point, where gun laws tightened because the black panthers chose to exercise the full extent of the existing gun laws.
Seems percentage of households is reasonably steady as you suggest. However the number per person has gone up with a minority owning a lot of firearms.
Gun deaths per capita USA leads by far, but also ownership per capita also leads by far.
Mass shootings -4 or more deaths not counting shooter- USA leads by far.
USA States with loosest laws have most mass shootings and gun deaths.

I can't believe the governor had the audacity to offer thoughts and prayers when he was the one who legalized the purchase of guns by 18 year olds without a background check..... pathetic scumbag.

Imagine a country or state where the madman carrying the AR 15 is better equipped than the regular cop on the beat. Madness, total stupidity and madness.
Also completely inaccurate.
Majority of patrol cars in both usa and Canada have rifles in their vehicle

So it is not good for hunting? Perfect. I agree. Ar-15s are not needed for hunting. Thanks
That's the only thing you got from that ?
My God, how can anyone be so dense

If you're gonna add your two cents to any conversation atleast have some knowledge about the topic

But instead of learning about it, you decide to simply ignore the facts and double down on your ridiculous point that was made with zero facts

People like you are the reason why there will never be a solution

Not AR-15s. Tactical shotguns.
Some agencies now got them. None of the local cops responding to shooting had one. Needed to get Federals in.
Ar-15 not so good for hunting. Can pass through animal. Dangerous for home defence because if you miss can pass through your wall and your neighbour's wall killing them. They can pass through standard police body armour too.

I didn’t ignore what you said, everything you said pointed to the fact that AR-15s are not good for hunting. That was what your post basically said. Am I wrong? I didn’t reiterate any of the reason I said before, which you said were wrong. I thanked you for your information, what fucking more do you want? We agree that they are not good for hunting. You proved that to me. What am I suppose to say?

Hmmm I thought that they were not good for hunting but you are right, they are not good for hunting. LMAO

I mean did you not say this

Did you know that large game shouldn't be hunted with an ar 15 because it is not powerful enough ?
We agree. They are not good for hunting. You have given me the reasons why they are not good for hunting. They are not good for hunting based on your words. Like Wtf dude.

Government building gets shot up: "Beef up armed security! This cannot happen again!"

School resource officer makes a heartwarming connection - YouTube

How much do you think armed security in the U.S. are paid? Do you think you are going to get well trained people?
Well, fine. But that's different to what you said before, which implied that the nice folks out there were being unreasonable trying to hire a SWAT calibre cop who was also kid-friendly and implying that it was the public's fault when that didn't work out.

Plain facts are that SWAT team jocks like being SWAT team jocks and get a nice pay package to do just that. So they're not going to want to be security guards at a primary school. But if you read my prior posts, I suggest that none of this is practical or likely to happen. It's just this week's GOP talking point because those politician scumbags are paid by the NRA to block any attempt to reduce gun sales to the general public, including 18 year old sociopaths and will say any crazy shit that they choreograph with each other and their paymasters ahead of time to get through those uncomfortable post-murder pressers.

Do you have any opinion of the current buzz about the Uvalde SWAT team hanging back for an hour while the shooter hunted and killed kids and teachers unhindered?

I guess you haven't been following the story as to why the local cops did not go in and waited for the tactical unit or just don't care and like to make shit up.

I still stand by my opinion that people's expectation of what a School Resource Officer should be able to do is unreasonable.

I used to be in the military. I know first hand that a infantryman trained to kill is generally not suitable to do social work, which is what School Resource officers do. You put a guy with tactical capabilities in that role who has had to pass courses that have a failure rate and you have to be tough to do, the parents will have him kicked out because they don't want to hear their kid is getting guidance he or she is a pussy and should suck it up instead of coming to him with stupid problems.

Yes I do have my opinion on the hour delay. Uvalde is only 15,000 people. They likely don''t have a SWAT team.

U.S. Border Patrol SWAT officers were called in. An hour to contact someone who has a team, assembling them and travelling to the location doesn't sound unrealistic.
