Let's adjust Delgado's numbers because he was a natural player playing in the steroid era.

I know we can't do that but still...Love that guy..He would have mashed it in Yankee stadium.
But you still have to adjust the numbers for the ball juicing that happened in 1993/1994, which MLB then retained post strike. This boosted stats for everyone HR's increased by 37% in the AL in 1994 (vs avg of 1990-1992). Its a huge increase. And then HR's basically stayed flat from 1995-2006. Not everybody started juicing in 1994 - some did, but we know the majority of the issues started in the later 90's. Did steroids influece stats for some... yes but there was a big baseline jump regardless of steroids that occurred in that era.

There is a long modern history of ball modifications influencing HR's - 1987, 1994 and again in the mid to late 2010's. .

AL Home Runs per Game
1984-1986 - .95
Ball Change in 1987 - 1.15 (Increase of 21%)
Ball Change in 1988 - 0.84 (Decrease of 28%)
1989-1992 - .80 (ranged from 0.78 to 0.86
Ball Change in 1994 - 1.11 (Increase of 37%)... part of this was probably also expansion and some juice coming in.
1995-2006 - 1.07 to 1.21 (HR's stay flat after 1994)
2007 - 0.99 ... finally went under 1.00 in 2007. This was the impact of steroids, but it wasn't close to 1992 either.
2008-2015 - Average of 1.03
Ball Change in 2016 -
2016-2021 - HR's Increased to an Average of 1.28 (An increase of 25%), hitting a peak of 1.43

At some point post covid they changed the ball again - HR's Average 1.12 the last 3 years.

Look at the trends in your table, and the career stats of Wade Boggs.

A strange batting spot for Gimenez at #4, but #4 really means nothing in new school lineups which load your lineups at #1, #2, #3.

If Gimenez can improve his 2024 performance, to 70% of the gap between 2022 and 2024, it could be huge for the Jays. This might be a really good trade for the Jays given his defensive value....or it could be a real whiff.

But if we are to contend we need to hit some home runs on some of these guys bouncing back. (Concering because it mostly goes the other way, but its early in the season so lets hope!)

On Thursday, Max Muncy played 3B for the Dodgers and Max Muncy played 2B for the A's.

The former Max is the ten year veteran and LA Dodger regular since 2018. The latter made his MLB debut. The two Maxes were born exactly 12 years apart, but they are unrelated. On August 13, 2024, the two Maxes played against each other in the Pacific Coast League while Max the elder was on a rehab assignment.

I was at the game yesterday. The pitching is just a shit show. Even watching them in the bullpen below us warming up didn't inspire confidence.

Our opening day tickets were incredibly cheap. I suspect you're going to see a lot of cheap tickets this season. Consensus around us in the crowd was that they will end up last in the AL East this year. I'm not quite so pessimistic. I say second last.

Well at least Gimenez had a good game. That's all I can say about game 1.

Re: Blue Jays bobblehead giveaway games, (see post #179):

This may or may not be significant, but there are no bobblehead dolls this year for Gausman, Bassitt, Max, Berrios nor Bichette. There are two Vlad Jr. bobblehead games, both before the trade deadline. There's one each for the offseason acquisitions who have multiyear contracts and the successful extension, (Gimenez, Hoffman, Santander and Kirk).

I like the Charlie Brown bobblehead to commemerate the 75th anniversary of the comic strip Peanuts.

I was at the home opener on Thursday. Here's some advice for all of you. Make sure your credit card is cleared. You're gonna need it if you go to the concession stands a foot-long hotdog and a bottle of Pepsi $24 plus... a piece of pizza $15 and up.
