I don't see it happening.
Without a U.S. backed NATO they would never try it. I don't think that's in America's interest at this point, they wouldn't allow it. Either way they don't get dragged into any wars they're not up for unless there's a direct threat on their interests.
Besides, Germany's economy is in tatters at the moment. No one stands a chance at this moment without America's tech capabilities and intelligence gathering and coordination abilities.
