Do you mean at some point during his career? How could you think he wouldn't be going to free agency at some point?
It wouldn't be a big deal if he left at age 35.Obviously...
He wants a big contract, only 3/4 will be able to sign him.It wouldn't be a big deal if he left at age 35.
But they're willing to let him walk at 25, entering what should be the prime of his career.
IMO, they need him a lot more than he needs them. Rogers is flush with cash.He wants a big contract, only 3/4 will be able to sign him.
And if he has a good year, even more. There will be no shortage of suitors, several of whom are not as rich as Rogers.$400 million doesn't get it done. It would take $500+ over 12 years.... At least.
Most of the reporting has been very negative towards the Jays. The first place I checked out was MLB Network and it was the lead story. They said that the Jays blew it. A young home grown star....gone.And if he hits over .300 this year with over 35 home runs and 100 RBIs…. He’s gone. I understand the risk because of his stats, but it’s really about his age and potential. I feel like all he has needed is protection in the lineup so he can be very choosy for his pitch.

I predict the Mets will sign Vlady, and Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins will get their houses toilet papered, like they did to Mitch Williams. Most of the reporting has been very negative towards the Jays. Another said that the Jays shot themselves in the foot--------again. Another said that Shapeero embarrassed himself at the press conference when he said that he got "emotional" over it.
It's too bad that Buck works for Rogers. When the time comes I'd love to hear what he really thinks.
I'm not very young. I've been a sports fan all my life. I just don't think the Jays should pay Vladdy $40 million/yr over 12 yrs for a total of $480 million. Don't forget, Vladdy was awful, for the first half of 2024. Vladdy only got better, once he got his haircut.....LMAO As usual, just my opinion!!That's why I said in my previous post that he's looking for only slightly more than half of what the others got.
You must be very young. Even the Leafs stopped selling out in the 80's. I think the same happened in the year they tanked and got the #1 pick. Jays fans will not be as forgiving. Even just about 10 years after they won the World Series, they were getting attendance of 16 or 17,000.
Again, as I said in my previous post, early season enthusiasm advance ticket sales will get them to at least the end of May. After that, ticket sales will be more dependent on where they are in the standings. But ratings are somewhat different. Ratings affect what they can charge for advertising. That effect could happen sooner. I also wouldn't be surprised if season ticket sales are down this year as a result of a shitty 2024.
