This is crazy. The fire started in the foothills of the Palisades and the Santa Ana winds are just fueling it. Los Angeles mayor cut $17M from the forest budget, I'm guessing that didn't help the situation

Ironically, I would guess the homeless enclaves are pretty much unaffected by the fires so far. Wrong neighborhoods. A fire in certain areas could have solved a few problems. Just sayin. ...

I heard an interview with a fire fighter a couple of years ago where he said that they used to be able to count on a bit of a break for December and January but that is no more. They are commonly fighting fires on Christmas Day. Talk about living in LALA land. Completely unprepared for the inevitable.

the fires in Hawaii could've been a great warning for them... being close to the ocean you would think with the funding Cali have, desalination of ocean water for this purposes would come in handy. Somebody is fucking up big time.

Correct me if I am wrong but the fire department steps in after a fire breaks out.
How could any budget prevent a wild fire from ever occurring?
Imo only climate change initiatives could possibly do that.

If you attend fire prevention seminars, the fire department don't only steps in when a fire breaks out. They conduct inspections on a regular basis. They even have "fire prevention week" at times...not sure about Cali but cutting fire department budget will directly affect how they prevent fires and how they fight them. You think fire department staff just sit around and wait for fires?

Surfactants reduce surface tension of the liquid. The liquid can better ‘wet’ the surface on which it is sprayed.

911 callers are reporting arsonists have set some of the fires.
If thats true this has nothing to do with climate change

I dont think the cut is major considering the budget.
She cut it from 837M to 820M.
I dont think that would have severely limited their preventative efforts if at all there were any.
