A 10-year jail sentence is warranted

In a place far, far away

Too bad the UK doesn’t have SuperMax jails.

If you did this in Singapore these nut jobs would be canned.

Imagine if this happened in Saudi Arabia. Or a country where they will lop off the appendage used to commit this crime.

I fail to see how throwing soup on a piece of Van Gogh's art is going to accomplish anything these protesters wanted.

They drew attention to themselves for being fucking idiots, not to climate change or to the assholes running the oil industry.

It's just a painting. Shit for all we know, it could be a fake and the real one is locked up somewhere else since this has been done before.
At the end of the day, it's just a canvas with some painted oil.

Come @ me bros. 🤣🤣
Oh, yeah, Sunflowers was destroyed? No worries, it’s just a painting after all. Like, who cares about a little canvas with some oil on it? It's not like it's the Mona Lisa, the Statue of Liberty, or, I don’t know, the Great Wall of China. Those are just rocks and metal anyway, right? Imagine if we lost Shakespeare’s works—just a bunch of old paper! Or the Sistine Chapel—just some pigment on a ceiling. Honestly, we’re probably better off without these trivial cultural touchstones. It's not like they represent human achievement or anything. Lets get back to the cave man days!

Honestly, the Saudis almost certainly wouldn't care. Van Gogh is likely viewed as some kind of Western infidel heretic to them.
Completely the opposite. When people have way too much cash, they often want to buy one-of-a-kind or extremely rare items at auctions. Paintings by Old Masters are at or near the top of that list:

List of Most Expensive Paintings

Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci:

Leonardo_da_Vinci,_Salvator_Mundi,_c.1500,_oil_on_walnut,_45.4_×_65.6_cm.jpg

sold for a record $450.3 Million USD in 2017 - to Badr Bin Abdullah El Saud, even though there is some doubt as to whether or not this work was entirely produced by da Vinci. Seven Van Gogh paintings have sold for more than $100 Million USD.

If someone damaged or destroyed something valued at $100 Million or more, and owned by a Saudi Arabian, there would be payback, not just against the perpetrator, but likely against ALL of his relatives as well.

Yeah, most likely that painting is in some palace somewhere in SA, far away from the general public. If it ever went on display, it would be guarded in such a way that anyone who even breathed on it wrong would be liquidated immediately.

I think he probably has it hanging in his bathroom.

$450 million is pocket change to a member of the Saudi Royal family. At the same time, however, it is his property, and disrespect shown to his property would be deemed to be disrespect to him personally.

Exactly, there's nothing wrong with oil.

And don't feel sorry for those two idiots. They're going to be having more sex in the next 2 years than most of us here are going to! :D

Are not most paintings in the Louvre covered by plexiglass?
It was at the National Gallery in London. The article stated it was covered by "protective" glass, but the soup caused £10k damage to the frame.
