The WORST 10 MLB CONTRACTS Of All Time!!! Unmitigated DISASTERS!!
Ryan Howard had a body type similar to Vlad Guerrero Jr, (slightly taller, almost the same weight), and he was also a first baseman. Signing him to a long-term extension didn't go well for the Philadelphia Phillies. These are two different men, and Vlad story is still being written, but this is just another example of how the career of a big man at first base can go south quickly, and if someone like that has multiple guaranteed years, No team will take on his salary, if his performance declines while he's being paid top dollar.
I expect Guerrero to be productive for at least another 4-5 seasons, and who knows, after that. I also don't expect the Blue Jays to be World Series contenders at any time during the next 4-5 years, with Guerrero signed long term at $35 Million or more per season, not with about $70 Million of their 2025 budget already earmarked for Springer, Bassitt and Gausman.
