Ravens @ Chiefs -3 : You couldnt ask for a better to start the season. The Ravens went 7-1 on the road last year while the Chiefs were an unimpressive 5-4 at home, but they are also 5-1 in their last 6 meetings against the Ravens going back to 2015. Mahomes is faced off against Jackson in 5 of those 6 meetings. Here is a QB Comparison :

Mahomes Jackson

2018 BAL 24 @ KC 27 35/53 2td 1 int 357 yards 3 sacks 13/24 147 2-0 2 sacks
2019 BAL 22 @ KC 33 27/37 374 3-0 1 sack 22/43 267 0-0 3 sacks
2020 KC 34 @ BAL 20 31/42 385 4-0 0 sack 15/28 97 1-0 4 sacks
2021 KC 35 @ BAL 36 24/31 343 3-1 0 18/26 239 1-0 2 sack
2024 KC 17 @ BAL 10 30/39 241 1-0 2 20/37 242 1-1 4 sacks

Lamar Jackson was tied or leading rusher for the Ravens in all of those games except for 1 and he was the leading rusher for either team in 2 or the last 3. The Chiefs were flat last year until it counted. Their defense kept them alive long enough for another Mahomes playoff miracle run. KC was an average team against the run allowing the 16th most rushing yards. Derrick Henry showed he still has lots left in the tank finishing 2nd in rushing in the entire NFL last year. Andy Reid will have a nightmare gameplanning against the dual rushing threat of Henry and Jackson. The Chiefs will have no choice but to stack the box against the run for virtually every play. Will the Ravens get cute again and try to outpass Mahomes like their last meeting or will they stick to their league leading rushing attack in 2023 ? This game will be exciting. History shows that the Chiefs get to Jackson an average of 3 times per game, and the Ravens revamped O-line should not be expected to instantly improve. Jackson throws for an average of 1 TD per game against the chiefs while Mahomes boasts a 2.25 TD average when facing the Ravens. The Chiefs have imrorved at WR since last year while the Ravens have drastically improved the best rushing team adding the 2nd best rusher from 2023. As much as I want to pick the Ravens I just cannot based on their meetings. The addition of Derrick Henry may just allow the Ravens to keep Jackson safer behind a shaky offensive line. If it comes to a passing battle, Mahomes is going to win 9 times out of 10.

Kansas City 30 - Baltimore - 24

Actual score 27-20

Green Bay @ Philadelphia -2: After steamrolling to a 10-1 start, the Eagles completely imploded going 1- 5 to finish the season before losing to Tampa Bay in the playoffs. Losing to San Francisco and Dallas is understandable. Maybe even Seattle is excusable. But to lose to the Giants and the Cardinals to finish the season ? Thats inexcusable. Saquon Barkley was a great addition to their #8th ranked rushing team. Their passing offense was very average ranking 16th vs the also average 14th ranked Packers. Rushingwise the Eagles rank 8th and the Packers 14th. Defensively the Packers rank 11th against the pass and vs the Eagles 28th ranked pass defense. Rushing defense the Eagles rated 16 vs the Packers at 22nd. Im riding the hot hand on this one. In the later half of the season the Packers beat the Rams, Lions and Chiefs, then handed Dallas a whooping in the playoffs. Since last November the Eagles have only 1 win and that was against the hapless Giants. The one stat where the Eagles may have some hope is the 2023 Packers only one once, week 1 against the Bears, when on the road playing on grass and that the Eagles were 6-2 at home last year while the Packers were 4-5 on the road. I think the Packers will be stronger this year because of their experiences last year and the Eagles weaker for the same reason.

There is no way in the world that I would make any bets in the first 2 weeks of the season,

I agree somewhat but there are always some 1-2 teams in transition thst people have written off who start rolling mid season

For sure, many different scenarios can play out, but it never hurts to get some early feedback before betting.

I've been watching some of the 1st 2 games, and I've gotta say, I hardly recognize the game any more. Between the stupid kickoffs, penalties on 50% of the plays, the extinction of the running game, no ball control offense etc., it's a clown show.

Will we ever see a team start at their own 20, march the ball down the field with 14 plays, 5 1st downs and eat up 7 minutes with physical domination? Grind the other team down. There is so much less strategy, just pass, pass, pass and then pass some more.

It's a reflection of our society where everybody needs instant gratification. "I want it now." Nobody has the patience to be deliberate and methodical. It seems counterintuitive but with so much passing, the game seems more boring. Just my opinion.

For those thinking of betting on my Bengals a couple of things to consider. Our top WR Ja'marr Chase is a game time decision due to contract reasons. Our second best WR Tee Higgins is doubtful due to injury. We are playing the Pats who could possibly be the worst team this year.

Is Charlie Jones in the mix at WR?

To be honest, with all the attention paid to Chase's and Higgins' contract squabbles I haven't heard too much about him. He seemed to make more of an impact as a kick returner.

As a Purdue fan I was a big fan of his...They should give him a chance.
I'm all for giving him a chance. Hell, after today's result I'm all for throwing you out on the field and seeing how it goes.

He made reference to it during his TD end zone celebration.

This is Tyreek Hill. All the cops know him. He is meters away from the stadium where they know he is going to be playing in a game in a couple of hours. Whatever it is, just give him a ticket and send him on his way. Instead, they put him face down and handcuff him. Just mind boggling. Maybe had something to do with the car he was driving: McLaren 720s.
Like he said, imagine if it wasnt Tyreek Hill. Glad its being handled swiftly, though.
