We could look at it slightly differently than from just a numbers perspective, although I will address that point 1st. It is true that, in theory and based on population, the women's market is just about equal to the men's. The problem with that argument is that men are still, by far the largest consumer of sports worldwide. I don't seem to notice many commercials for tampons and Revlon even though women are half the population.
I think why we're seeing more and more women's sports being covered is for no other reason than political correctness. Just like we see more women and people of colour in commercials, news coverage, TV casts etc., etc. I have no problem with any of that. But when it affects my ability to enjoy sports..........
Maybe the title could have been "Should We Be Ashamed?".
The title should have been: "I should be ashamed." You could have started a thread but you didnt. So now you are trying to guilt the rest of us for not doing so. Shame on you.
Your delusion shines through when you say women's sports are being covered due to political correctness.
In the US, the national women's soccer team is far more successful than the men's team and easily outdraws the men in both attendance and viewership.
In Paris, Canadians watched Summer McIntosh swimming more than any other athlete or event.
US women won 26 of the 40 gold medals in Paris. Katie Ledecky is the most successful and most popular swimmer and Sydney McLaughlin is the most successful and most popular track athlete. They draw huge viewerships
The WNBA All star game in Chicago on July 20 drew viewership of 3.4 million. The NBA All Star game in Indianapolis drew 5.5 million
Games this year featuring Caitlin Clark and the Fever have more viewership than several NBA games.
I bet you the US Open final featuring Jessica Pegula and Aryna Sabalenka will draw just as much as the men's final with a US male in the final
Women's sports are increasingly being covered due to improving profitability not due to political correctness. GYHAS
