Democrats Shove Biden Into Late Night Slot to Make Room for D-List Speakers, Abortion Activists "What does it say about the modern state of the Democratic Party that it could not ask these abortion speakers to stand aside, to make room for the President of the United States to speak at a reasonable hour tonight?" "And they're still in it. I mean, he's not up yet. I think it's striking. This is the party of abortion. It is their biggest issue. And in their own minds, I think they think it's their biggest advantage, which tells you a lot." Brit Hume *NAILS* it

Keeping him hidden for 4 years was a lot of work.
Now it's a lot easier to shove him aside and hope that no one remembers how they deceived the public.

The only Major media organization fitting that description is Fox. Because of their reliance on advertising, I guess it's fair to say they are beholden to right wing advertisers, just as CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and MSNBC are beholden to left wing advertisers. However, the balance of media leans left, not right, and in a closely coordinated way.
I realize you cling to that delusion, but it doesn't make it true.

Every party always gets a bump going into and coming out of their convention.
The GOP managed not to this year, which is quite impressive.

The game is played for keeps starting in September. There is no Harris/Walz momentum.
The GOP sure is acting like there is.

There is relief among Democrats that Biden has stepped down and a renewed hope that the change will be enough to hang on to the white house. This is not "new" or "independent" support shifting to the Harris/Walz ticket.
What evidence we have says it is.
People haven't left Trump, but all the third party candidates have dropped.
That implies people who were parking their vote there as protest/complaint have shifted.

I am sure we both agree that none of this is static, though.

Trumps "repulsion" factor is as baked in already as it is ever going to be.
After 9 years, it seems well established that Trump's floor and ceiling are both resistant to change.

Well I mean, choosing the lesser evil is pretty bad if you think about it...
No it isn't.
You should always choose the lesser evil in everything you do if you can.
That's how you get less evil in the world.

I really don't understand these people who announce they don't want to reduce evil.
It's fucking bizarre.

there's no better candidate out there than these 2?
The nature of flawed systems.
There is no way to get the perfect, bestest candidate for executive office since probably lots of people who might be considered best would never want to run.
That's even if you bypassed the whole fact that you have to navigate the systems in place to have a shot and those don't necessarily select for the actual governing skills.
(And no system designed could ever flawlessly select for the best person since there is no fixed goal that is "best". )
You are always going to get flawed candidates and since people genuinely disagree about what needs to be done, even the BEST candidates aren't going to be viewed as best by a significant portion of the population.

Do you like the policy she's laid out so far?
It's mostly a continuation of Biden's policy, so yes.
He was a FAR better president than I had anticipated.

Do I agree with all of it?
Of course not.
I would be absolutely shocked if I ever had a candidate I agreed with on everything.

There's minimal...she hasn't had an interview except from Walsh...Lol... She herself said there's a lot of problem right now..economy, housing etc etc...and she's going to fix it...why hasn't she and Joe Biden fixed it for almost 4 years?
The GOP has been VERY effective at stopping things from getting fixed.
That's a flaw with the US system - far too many veto points and too much ability for counter-majoritarian rule.

You have to bear in mind that polls are also a guideline as to how the campaign shapes out.
Yes, but those are usually the internal polls by the campaign themselves.

I am not saying never report on polls.
I am saying focusing on polls and obsessing over every shift still within the margin of error is bad journalism.

Reports seem to be putting it as low as 3,000 and maybe as high as 20,000.

As always, crowd counting is difficult and often disputed. (We may get some good estimates later when there can be overhead shots of the march or of a fixed rally point.)

Definitely well below the 100,000 people were talking about at the beginning of the weekend.

So back to my point, "price controls" seriously? We're talking about this in 2024?
Anti-price-gouging laws.
Which are already common. (30-40 states have them, I can't remember the total number.)

I didn't see any specific detail released other than talking about it in the speech, so maybe I've missed some additional material, but I've been assuming it would be similar to Warren's bill on Federal price-gouging prevention.
