So during the broadcast now, if the Jays hit an HR or they win the game they have fake fireworks on the screen. The sport just keeping going more downhill.
lol. Pretty sad when you see Carter’s home run and you get reminded of the real fireworks. I also can’t stand those big fake digital banners falling down from the upper level telling you who is due up in the next half.

Interesting fact. During the series against Baltimore Vlady Sr. was in town to watch Vlady Jr. Apparently, when Vlady Jr. hit a home run it was the first time Vlady Sr. was present in stadium when Vlady Jr. hit a dinger in the majors.

I have no definitive knowledge of her, but I would have serious doubts. And she seems to be a crappy drummer. Having said that, I'd do her in a heartbeat.

As in objectivity vs.TERB general manager garbagectivity.

Is the Davis Schneider craze officially over?
The moustache gimmick appears to have died.

I am surprised nobody here is talking about the comments Mark Shapiro made last week. I don’t know what’s worse. Listening to Mark Shapiro talk or listening to Ross Atkins talk. This front office literally dismantled the 2021 team piece by piece and I think Mark Shapiro is also to blame big time. Probably the worst president we have ever had. That 2021 team presented the most optimism literally since 1991.

Agree with everything, Phil. But let's give credit where credit is due.

So many of their moves did not work out but I have heard not a single negative comment about the new cup holders.

@Toronto Passions: I put Ebony Booty Lover on Ignore a few months ago, mostly because of his attitude, as opposed to his opinions. I was saying in mid May that it was time to write off the Jays' 2024 season and time for them to try to get as much as possible for expiring contracts, as quickly as possible. Almost every time in which he replied to me with with a differing opinion, he included a 'lol'. I honestly don't think he realizes how disrespectful that is in a TERB forum other than 'Politics'. I have no interest in debating any topic with people who act like that. I have better things to do with my time.

For you, I think you are naive when it comes to the business end of Baseball. There was never ANY chance that Shohei Ohtani was going to sign with the Blue Jays. Zero. That was just a hot stove league rumour designed to sell a few extra copies of The Toronto Sun to baseball fans in February.

Japanese top level stars are always going to want to play in New York or somewhere on the West Coast; New York because of its market size, and the West Coast because of its climate and time zone. Like Ichiro Suzuki, Ohtani's games are broadcast on Japanese television. Los Angeles is three time zones closer to Japan than Toronto. There's also virtually no Japanese Community in Toronto, and Ohtani converses in English through an interpreter, just like Vlad Jr. (Part of that might be strategic for both; someone who speaks some English, but not with nuances, might easily find themselves cancelled if they said something which ruffled the feathers of some group or another which takes themselves too seriously. An interpreter would 'reword' the comment, or take the blame).

Ohtani makes more money from endorsements than he does from salary, hence the terms of his Dodgers' contract which pay him relatively little in the short term, and huge amounts down the road. His endorsement income would suffer significantly if he was playing in Toronto, a city with which many Japanese are unfamiliar.

It isn't enough for the Blue Jays to match other teams' offers to stars, and expect them to sign here. The Rogers Center, and the playing surface specifically, are large deterrents. Star players want to play on grass fields, because it extends the productive years of their careers. Andre Dawson might have had huge career numbers if he handled played home games for the first eleven years of his career on the toothbrush surface at Olympics Stadium.

Realistically, for the Jays to be competitive again any time soon, they need to adopt the 'small market' approach of the Tampa Bay Rays, (investing more in player development than free agent spending), because they can't compete on a level basis with the Yankees' deep pockets and 'aura', or the Orioles' young cheap talent, now backed by a new ownership group headed by one of the World's wealthiest individuals, and playing within driving distance of the 'Nation's Capital'.

Locking up Guerrero long term isn't going to help the Jays become serious contenders during that contract. It's no coincidence that Guerrero got hot around the same time that the results of individual games in 2024 effectively ceased to matter. I think he's the type of guy who is more than happy to not have to work in October. His presence on the team, long term at big bucks, isn't likely to prompt him to take winning more seriously than he values his personal accomplishments. I think he's more valuable somewhere else, (where he isn't the top dog), than he would be here, helping to keep the team ahead of the Tigers, Angels and A's in the standings. The longer the Jays keep him, the less valuable he'll become, when the difference between his cost and his production is the only thing which really matters.
