This one is getting drowned out by all the other scandals but deserves a good look.
DoFo wants to put beer in corner stores for the election.
He can't provide health care, family doctors and is cutting education massively so thinks this will get him reelected.

In order to do this he has to pay the Beer Store $225 million for broken contracts along with another rumoured $600 million in fines.

He's offering contracts for beer to the same wedding guests, a move that will cost Ontario in billions in profit from the LCBO.

I thought he was the worse when he closed golf courses and outside recreation parks during covid.

Do people actually drink 1 billions worth of booze profit?

Anyway, free 407, discount on gas and no fee on license plate that all it takes to persuade ontarians to vote for him.

The Beer store takes in about $2.5 billion in revenue per year after taxes.

The 407 will not be free. The ban on tolls was for the proposed toll routes on the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway.

The cuts on the provincial fuel tax will be over June 30, 2024.

No fee on license plates will most likely lead to safety inspections every one or two years if Conservatives get reelectd in a majority.
They have been collecting the data since 2020.
“We are starting to collect data. And from that data, we will be able to make changes in the future,” she explained.
“This is a huge win for our industry,” said Toronto shop owner John Cochrane, a member of the AARO board of directors. “Everyone in this room would like to see mandatory inspections every year, because we see the unsafe vehicles. But we have to prove the data. The politicians want to see that data before they’ll approve anything.”
“Now we’re going to have data going to the Ministry and we can start to build a case for regular inspections.”

407 is to connect DoFo wedding guest developers and to let them buy up the proposed route and sell it back to Ontario.
Gas discount is part of the record Ontario debt, you're paying for it later.
The lack of fee on licenses is to court votes and add even more to the debt.

Dougie maybe trying to buy votes for an early election:

Ontario opposition parties ready for early election call after premier fuels speculation

You know PeePee is going to be a shit show if DoFo thinks he has to hold the Ontario election before PeePee gains office.

The Beer Store doesn't take in nearly that much in revenue. The Globe article you quoted is from almost 10 years ago. Financial statements for 2023 show total revenue of $462MM (2022-$452.5MM). Net profit of $1.9MM (2022-$5.7MM). Doesn't sound like a not for profit to me.

While I'm no fan of Ford this move will not cost Ontario taxpayers $1B. This is NDP/Liberal math.

We've already forgotten 230 Million to cancel green energy contracts (i.e, pay an extra 230 million to private interests to prevent Ontarians from getting a service).

The purpose of the state used to be to protect the proletariat from the capitalists. Neoliberalism started to erase that protection. Doug Ford-ism is to directly transfer public funds and assets into private hands. I guess that makes us an oligarchy? Time to start assembling the guillotines I guess.

If this helps to get rid of the over-paid LCBO union staff, and makes buying alcohol more convenient and pricing competitive (like in every other province) sign me up!

ps No one believes the Liberal/NDP doom/gloom lies as usual.

Yeah! How dare a labourer get paid! That's just less money for the bourgeois. It's not the Oligarch's fault that some people are born poor!

The stock and selection at the LCBO is second to none in Canada, and the ability to look-up products online and locate them in a store is awesome.

When that disappears we will be stuck with every local store stocking $15 (and under) bottles of not great wines.

I drove around to small stores in Kelowna blindly looking for a bottle of wine based on people at the winery telling me which stores might have stock. Never found it, but wasted a lot of time and gas.

BTW, a summer job at the LCBO is posted at $17.85/hour, so I don't think the retail staff are over-paid in the least. And they have a posting in Ottawa for a warehouse worker for a 9 month term at $17.85/hour. I think you need to adjust your idea of who's making money at the LCBO.

So why do LCBO full time staff need to be unionized with publicly funded pensions?
You're also not considering all the other LCBO full-time positions and not just in-store. ie marketing, systems analysts, managers, etc.

If retail stores get their stock from LCBO distribution, can't the LCBO provide a website for where particular products are sold? It's not rocket science. There is even discrepancies between different LCBO stores where some don't carry products others do so the problem currently exists anyway.

So employing LCBO staff is actually a form of charity in your opinion?

Skoob has the logic of a trust fund baby.

We must kiss Premier Douglas's feet for riding Ontario of all organized crime. That way he can privatize the LCBO to Cortellucci, Muzzo and company with peace, love and understanding. If not, then the outfits will want their piece of the action. I'd feel sorry for the convenience store owners, there's no Great Shat to protect them once the Provincial government steps aside.

As for the 407 ETR, I haven't heard that the CPP has sold their majority stake to Premiere Douglas.

Gotta admit The Great Shat does a lovely Swedish accent.
