As the losses pile up, more and more people will look at this as a lost season and stay away, especially with the large uptick in prices for tickets and concessions. Toronto fans can be loyal to a fault but they are not stupid.

Ross, I believe in this team, Atkins. When does one ask that if what they believe is aligned with reality. Reality is that they sucked ALL SEASON offensively last year and did nothing in the off-season to address it. They treated like it was a blip. It was a glaring deficiency that was evident to the most casual of fans and they got IKF, a 39 year old Turner, a 40 year old Votto and a "slugger" who's hitting .111 with no home runs who Kirk could probably beat in a foot race.
This has to be the worst performance by a Jays GM in history, even including JP Ricciardi.

Jays won thanks to Daniel Vogelbach and Alex Manoah. That’s not a sentence I ever anticipated writing.But seriously, the Jays manage to avoid being swept, which is somewhat annoying, since it reinforces Atkins’ “we’re close” bullshit. It further delays any needed changes, whether that’s in management, at manager, or among the players, all of which I think are needed.

What is even worse, is that so many people called this because of the lack of movement in the offseason. After watching an encouraging victory like today, it is so easy to feel a little optimism. But as history has shown us, it’s a cycle and goes right back to feeling like shit about this team again..

I'd say sometime between 2014-2016. They were 59-86 plus OT losses those 2 seasons and there were a number of games with tickets available. I believe it was newsworthy at the time.
Prior to that in the 80's during the end of the Ballard era when the team was a complete joke.

The March 23, 2015 game vs Minnesota had attendance of 18,336. This was the only home game under 18,800 in those two seasons.
Most likely, official attendance includes no-shows and tickets that scalpers had to eat.
At this point, I can't see how Atkins doesn't get canned. The media and fans are calling for his head, and Shapiro isn't going anywhere. He can't use Schneider as his scapegoat. That card has been played to many times so he's going to have to dye on this hill. He needs a miracle to save his job now. The whole team needs to turn it around in the next 3 weeks and that's not going to happen. When the new GM gets hired it will be his mess to clean up so I wouldn't expect many moves between now and then.
I came across a twitter rant about how ownership just doesn’t give a fuck about winning. Apparently (I did not verify this) Rodgers Sports Media have no rights to broadcast Blue Jay games after the wild card series. Thus they really just want the team to be competitive enough but not too competitive.

They are calling for his head. He has no support anywhere. Everyone wants him gone. From 2010 to 2014 I don’t recall Alex Anthopoulos ever receiving this type of backlash. His winningest season was in 2010 with 85 wins, up until of course 2015 with 93 wins. But even in 2015 when Anthopoulos made all those moves (Price, Tulo etc etc), the Jays were a 500 team at the All-Star break until they broke loose because AA saw an opening to go for it. But after 2010 until 2014, this team was in the 70s or 80s with the win column. People were not calling for Anthopoulos’s head anywhere close to this.
It’s inevitable that Ross will be fired, anything delaying this is just wasting time. I personally think they should lock up both Bo and Vladdy immediately especially if they have bad years this year. Get them for cheaper. Give them both three year deals. Extend the window a little more and give them every incentive to demand more on the free market when they’re 29.

I DID sign up for an account once, but only because it was necessary before I could view certain pages. Within 48 hours, I received a notice that my account had been suspended because of 'activity contrary to the terms of service'. I guess it was against their policy to not post anything at all.

I can't say that I agree with this line of thinking. It makes it sound like revenue from the broadcasting rights is the only revenue stream that interests Rogers or is even the most significant.
Attendance for 40,000 at an average of $250 per seat for a playoff game=$10M/game (which goes up each series they survive)
Food and drink/alcohol at an average of $50 per person=$2M/game
Merchandise at the game.
Merchandise across Canada
Increase in tickets for subsequent seasons (which basically carries on forever because prices never go down)
Paid advertising at the game.
Increase that it will cost advertisers for subsequent years
Increase in season ticket sales.
Reinvesting of the increased revenue.
Does Rogers get the revenue that advertisers pay for games in Canada on Rogers (TD, Home Hardware etc.)
I'm sorry, I have no idea how much the Jays would lose for giving up broadcast rights, but IMO there's a $$$hitload of money to be made for having a championship/winning team.

Manoah has discovered a change up. And it’s looking like he’s building confidence with that pitch. His slider is looking pretty deadly right now too. Remember how bad Berrios was in 2022? These things can come to an end. We’ve seen it before and now it’s forgotten.

In a poker game, the guy who loses the most money isn't the guy who's dealt the worst cards. It's the guy who consistently has the second best hand, and is still in the game when hole cards are revealed.
Sure, having a championship team is better than having a goal of winning at least one post season game. The Jays, however, don't have enough talent at the Major League, minor league or management level to pull that off. Not now, not in the foreseeable future.
Is it worth an extra $75 million per year outlay in salaries and luxury tax to Rogers to have a chance to advance to the Division series? I don't think so, and neither do they. Too many teams have either more talent, more money that they are willing to spend, or both.
Money can't buy championships, but poor money management can guarantee an early exit from the big dance. Rogers banks on the eternal optimism of Toronto fans that 'this might be the year', and the general Canadian attitude of taking pride in winning the wood medal.
To all this add the fact that players supposedly don't get paid for playoff games. Their annual salaries are only for the regular season, so all that revenue in the post season belongs to the owners.
