What happens when Trump is gone....is a very interesting question. I see a few scenarios. Let's look ahead and imagine he loses another election in November and/or goes to prison. Will the remaining GOPers try to regain control of the party and try to make it more centrist, or will the extreme side continue to hold sway. In either case, could a third part form? One for the MAGA and others for the more moderate GOP (or what passes for moderate now...).
Basically, we've seen a lot of right-leaning and centrist voters reject Trump and MAGA principles, and there is a strong change this will continue. So, I guess MAGA either burns itself out or re-invents itself to be relevant. Let's face the fact that the MAGA crowd has made this Congress the least productive EVER. They have passed so few bills and historically ousted a speaker from their own party....Failed an impeachment vote in their first kick at the can, succeeded despite dubious reasoning to do so...And let's not get into the Biden impeachment debacle....
Bottom line, it appears that MAGA just isn't good at governing, and I think many Americans are realizing that.
Now, there is obviously a chance that things can get worse. Say, some red states deciding to go it alone....and a civil war could brew in that wake. And, let's face the other fact that MAGA is pushing for Christian Nationalist agenda, which destroys the separation of Church and State. It could get really messy down there. And it is obvious that the Trump effect has basically allowed his followers to show off how deplorable they truly are...
