That doesn't answer my question. What are their qualifications to be experts? Why should we give a shit what they say?

They look like a couple of doofusses.
Well, in the NFL thread, I said the Saturday before, that I thought the Bills would beat Dallas. I'm a huge Bills fan, but I'm far from an NFL expert---LOL

I guess these guys are giving their Blue Jays off-season opinions. I guess there only qualification, is that they put up a you tube video on the Blue Jays. Whether they're right or wrong, is really besides the point. Especially when you have a so-called expert in Atkins, who made the worst trade in Blue Jays history, in the Varsho vs Moreno, and Guerriel JR trade!!

I hate Atkins but he has more baseball knowledge than any 10 of us put together.

How many contracts have you negotiated?
How many trades have you made?
How many dressing room have you been in?

Does that make any sense to you?

I agree to disagree. I think that Atkins is an awful GM. If it wasn't for the fact that's he's best buddies with Shapiro, Atkins would have been fired by now!!

I didn't say that he's a good GM. No matter how bad he is, he knows infinitely more about being a GM than any of us do.

Yes, but you could always hire a better GM than Atkins, who has Major League experience etc As usual, just my opinion!!

Like the management or not (I lean not) you have to give them credit for really good signings they've made. Yes, they've missed on some. Gausman deal is amazing value. Berrios is a solid contract (traded here for 2 "top" prospects who've fallen off a cliff). They signed JA Happ when they first got here and he won 20 games!

Some misses include not trading Donaldson at the right time. Kendrys Morales. The obvious Moreno trade, among others.

I'm not a fan of this off season, so far. I can be swayed with some big moves prior to spring training. That being said, the east had a down year last season. Yankees are stronger, Orioles are in a window, Rays are the Rays & Red Sox will be decent, too. Any combination of Yellich, Arenado, Polanco & another starter & pen arm.

So, basically I'm dreaming & I'm scared to think what this team will look like come opening day

While I like Bellinger a lot and he's still only 28, $240 million price tag is insane. I think a 7 year $168 million deal is more appropriate - that's $24 million a season. He was making $17.5 million in 2023.
Also like Bellinger. Can't justify that kind of term & $$.
We'll have some big $$ decisions coming up with Vlad & Bo. Bellinger was NL MVP a few years back then numbers took a dive. I'd do an incentive based deal with Bellinger, but I'm sure the Cubs or Yanks will give him tons of cash with no strings attached

Purely from the perspective of a fan, let 'em overspend as much as possible. I want a team that can contend for the division, at least. It's not my fuck'n money and I'm not the GM. I want entertainment and excitement.

There's no hard cap in baseball. I'm not sure why any fan should care if they overspend or not. Rogers is flush with cash. They should have outbid the Dodgers. Everybody has a price, including Ohtani.

As well, these guys have had 8 years already. It's closing in on a decade. That's more than enough time to deliver on their promises to the fans who have been super loyal. I wonder how much ticket prices will have gone up in that time once they announce this year's increases.

Let them spend, spend, spend. And then spend some more. The fans deserve it and should be demanding it.

Merry Christmas everyone. It is starting to feel like the Jays are doing a whole lot of nothing.

Phil. How can you possibly say that?

They're doing the renovations to justify big price increases.

Merry Christmas.
lol. Well at least they still have that poutine hotdog. The thing that tastes like a really bad accident happened at Harvy’s by your third bite.

I can’t understand how Pujols, Trout and Ohtani all were mainstays in the Angels batting order, and they accomplished shit on a stick. How do you not build around those guys?

Philip
Pujols with the Angels was a 1 WAR player average for his tenure there. Ohtani has really only been valuable these last 3 years -- which with unfortunate timing, has also been Trout's less productive years.
They went after big acquisitions around these guys but they were bad moves and haven't panned out; ie Rendon, Tyler Anderson, etc etc

yes, then Ross Atkins will be interviewed after all the big fish are gone and will say something like "We still feel really good about the team we have and our position going into the season, but we're always looking to make improvements via a trade. Spending money in the off season doesn't always equate to a better team...etc". Then Shapiro will jump in and say "winning the off season doesn't mean you win the regular season", and the beat goes on.

So I missed the press conference today, but apparently this is pretty much what he said as predicted.
