I think the Jays should troll the opposition with music clips in specific situations, or for certain batters' 'walk-up' music. Examples:

Opposition manager arguing call with umpires: "Can't Stand Losing You". (The Police)

Pitcher walks a batter with the bases loaded: "Give It Away" (Red Hot Chili Peppers)

Pitcher throws wild pitch, or unintentionally walks someone on four pitches: "All About the Bass", (Meaghan Trainor)

Wander Franco coming to bat: "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon", (Urge Overkill).

I'll go with the Gary Puckett and the Union Gap version.

Regardless, he ain't coming up to bat anytime soon. Another case of an athlete having the world at his feet and throwing it all away.

In another, in a seemingly never ending series of huge off-season moves by the Jays (when will they ever stop), the Jays promoted the Buffalo hitting coach up to assistant hitting coach with the big team. I forgot his name. It starts with a G.

I don't think Gary Puckett and the Union Gap ever released a cover of this song, (written and originally recorded by Neil Diamond).

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap discography.

Wander might have to consider France, if he wants to play pro ball again. That's where Roman Polanski went.

USA Today and the Score on Atkins and Ohtani...

Atkins didn’t think the Blue Jays were used to extract a better offer from a competing bidder.
“Absolutely not,” he said. “I feel strongly otherwise. We feel really good about the process. It was an incredible effort from ownership to business to baseball, people coming together. Not the outcome we wanted, but feel really good about the process and absolutely felt like it was authentic and real.”

I was listening to the Nothing Personal podcast from David Samson....he is 100% sure the Ohtani camp leveraged the Jays to get more out of the Dodgers....it's how these negotiations are always done.

As long as the process was good it means that the Jays came out on top. Who wants to admit that they're a patsy.

He was going to the Dodgers and Dodgers only. No way the Rogers were going near what the Dodgers gave him. He knows it's a better market for him.

It's a moot point now as he still feels really good about the group he has going into the new season.

I don't understand how MLB is letting the Dodgers defer so much money. Are they not manipulating the luxury tax by doing this?
They do fair value the deferred payments and then spread over the life of the playing contract for luxury tax purposes. So the Dodgers are not really abusing the luxury tax that much.

For example. Teoscar's lux tax hit is probably somewhere around $19-20M this year.

I suppose you could argue that these deferrals provide cash flow to absorb additional lux tax payments in 2023, which allows them to get more players now. But at some point, if they are not setting aside cash for the deferrals it will bit them in the ass.

He got $23.5M for only one year? That seems like a lot.
Not for a one year deal.If he sucks they're not on the hook will a big multi year contract. The jays did it with Belt last season. They overpaid on a one year so they wouldn't have to give more term. Teo is betting on himself plus giving himself the best chance at a World Series ring. If it works out for him he can get a better contract next season. It worked out for Marcus Semien. Blue Jays gave him $18 million after he had a down year and he banked soon after.

I just read in Sports Illustrated that Boston is the leading candidate to land Soler.
I know I also saw that on Google. Maybe Ross was bluffing about signing anybody. If they really wanted to they could make this lineup as difficult to face as it was in 2021. The way it is right now, give Vlady nothing to hit and your cruising.

I thought the agenda this off-season was pretty clear.

I am not pleased at all man. You are right.

They have to either get Cody Bellinger which doesn’t seem likely anymore….or Jorge Soler.

We all know that they do nothing more in the off season. There will be no reason to watch the Jays this year, unless you are a diehard fan. I hope to be proven wrong, but I am not holding my breath!

These guys are all about corporate double-speak, process and messaging. The only action they took was the renovation so they can charge more for seats, food, beer and merch without improving the team. After all, they feel good about the team they already have.

We miss Alex. The best years we've had since the back to back WS.

Let’s see how much double talk they do if the team gets off to a bad start and they can’t even fill up 50% of the stadium Monday to Friday.
