We all know that they do nothing more in the off season. There will be no reason to watch the Jays this year, unless you are a diehard fan. I hope to be proven wrong, but I am not holding my breath!

These guys are all about corporate double-speak, process and messaging. The only action they took was the renovation so they can charge more for seats, food, beer and merch without improving the team. After all, they feel good about the team they already have.
We miss Alex. The best years we've had since the back to back WS.
Let’s see how much double talk they do if the team gets off to a bad start and they can’t even fill up 50% of the stadium Monday to Friday.

One mulligan I will give them, they kind of get screwed being in Toronto. Your at such a disadvantage when your running a team here and trying improve via free agency. You either end up way over paying (like giving Springer an extra year at 25 million) or you just don't get your guy despite throwing 700 million at someone (Ohtani)
I think last year in the playoffs really showed us that the Blue Jays are victims of over analyzing these ridiculous metrics. I read somewhere comparing Cody Bellinger and his exit velocity and ground ball ratios, and blah blah blah., comparing last year to his 2019…. It’s getting ridiculous….just look at the guys ABs and figure what he would’ve done with 50 or 60 more for a full season. That’s the one thing I hate about the game today, is the over focus on these metrics. Spin ratio blah blah blah….. it’s so annoying.

Here's another way to look at it. They're the only team that has a whole country to itself. Rogers has enough money to outspend their disadvantage. The Jays had the highest payroll in baseball during their World Series years.
Still doesn't change the fact you have to give Springer a free 25 million and you often are automatically out when it comes getting certain free agents you won't. Toronto wasn't even on the list of teams Ohtani was willing play for on first contract.
The increased price of doing business from Canada is just a fact of life. If they want somebody, they're going to have to pay extra. No way around it. The point is that the Jays have a whole country as their market and can easily afford the extra cost. If they field a winning team and have to pay an extra $50M in payroll, they will easily make that back multi-fold.
Every player has his price. What if they'd offered Ohtani $800M and the Dodgers had stopped at $700M? But I agree that some players will just dismiss Toronto out of hand. But so far, the Jays have struck out more than Varsho and Vlad combined this off-season.
I believe when stars have to perform better for playing time due to over abundance of talent, you get the best out of everyone. I understand the prospects in the pipeline like Martinez and Addison Barger, but I really hope the Blue Jays sign Cody Bellinger. Front load the contract, team option after three or four years, and just get it done!

To the contrary, I wouldn't want to see a Bellinger signing at 200+. I need to see another solid year out of him before making that commitment. He went from NL MVP to falling off a cliff and not being able to hit his weight in avg.

He did fall off a cliff, but he also has had very big success in his career. I think he is on an upward swing again …. He comes from a high pedigree. Guys like him and Kenny Griffey Junior, they stand so upright in their batting stance, and they cover so much of the plate, they’re just deadly on so many levels.

It's pretty much a done deal. Stroman is signing with the Yankees.
Blake Snell is another pitcher they made an offer too but it came in below his asking price.

Personally I would sign Trevor Bauer since he was cleared from those allegations but I doubt that is going to happen.

Just using basic stats Bellinger had one of the worst seasons, or perhaps the worst season of any player this century in 2021. In 2022 basic stats he hit worse than Daulton Varsho.
I think it’s pretty important to look at predictive metrics in his 2023 season to see if his stats had some element of luck to them or not.
Wasn’t the story that Cody Bellinger hurt himself celebrating or something like that? I agree it’s a gamble for sure, he stunk for a couple of years and the humungous fall and grace, is difficult to bet on long-term. And he wants a long-term deal. I just think his young age and excellent success, and ability to put favourable team clauses might be worth the gamble.
The age old theory says what goes down, must go back up. I would bet on what happened last year coming back up again. He is highly recognized as a special talent across the league.

…. and now the predictions say he’s going to sign with the Cubs. If the Blue Jays present the exact same offence as last year give or take Matt Chapman, I am officially going to just remain a New York fan. The Yankees for the additions they made, the Mets for John Gibbons being a bench coach lol. I go to New York so often I am allowed to like any team they present.
